Just wondering if most people hire a seperate doula or use the midwife and assistant only.

W/our attended birth, we had just our two MW's. We asked their other "trainee" not to come. We wanted as few strangers tehre as possible!
Now, we do it ourselves. A PP doula would be nice though.

for my first I had a midwife, her assistant midwife, and my doula. I wouldn't have had it any other way. the doula was there with me all day, the mw got there about 4 hours before the birth, the assistant about 2 hours before.

for my second child the doula seemed extravagant (their rate out here is $800) since I was having my second homebirth and not really worried about the labor I only had the mw and her asst. that worked out fine also.

I had mw only. Actually it was the apprentice..the main mw was on vacation. The apprent. was supposed to have someone to come with her..but didn't.
