I read about these at Real Goods:
http://www.realgoods.com/product/hom...Sellers&page=1
"These chemical-free sheets eliminate static, soften fabric, and reduce lint. They work at any heat setting and leave no residue."
"How They Work: The weave of the fabric gives them their static fighting power. Carbon fibers, which absorb static electricity, are woven within the fabric. This is a mechanical process; no chemicals are used."
We have mainly cotton clothes, sheets and towels. But, dh has a number of polyester shirts that he wears to work and Mom, too, has some synthetic clothing items (I do her laundry, she's in assisted living). So, the combination of synthetics and weather conditions (cold and dry) make for perfect static! Added to the mix, our rent-a-dog who is 16 years old and sheds quite a bit.
I ordered these about two weeks ago from Real Goods and we have been using them. They really do work!
The static has disappeared. There might be a little crackle when I remove something from the dryer (if there are several synthetic items), but I just "wipe" one of these two dryer sheets over the item and that little bit of static is GONE, instantly. No more shocky zaps. No more dog hair on anything. Nothing is hiding inside other clothing anymore. No more weird spots on things (from those other commercial dryer sheets themselves). The pair last through 500 dryer runs. These are made in Canada, too!
We stopped using any dryer sheets quite awhile ago and have loved the difference in our clothes, though the static was sometimes a bit trying. Using these sheets has made it perfect!
We also keep a big, thick towel in the dryer all the time (I bought a bright ghastly-coloured one so that we would remember to leave it in the dryer!) which cuts-down, dramatically, the time you need to run the dryer.
I hope suggesting a product isn't considered spam! I just wanted to share something that DOES work for us!!
