Which "Treasury of Knitting Patterns" book to get?

I have a gift card for Barnes & Noble (also one for Amazon). I want to buy one of Barbara G Walker's "Treasury" knitting books. But I don't know which one.

Which one(s) is your favorite?

Here are the ones I'm aware of (there may be more, dates are the printings available on Barnes & Noble and/or Amazon):

Treasury of Knitting Patterns (1967, 1981, 1998)
Second Treasury of Knitting Patterns (1970, 1981, 1998)
Charted Knitting Designs (1972, 1986)
Charted Knitting Designs: A Third Treasury of Knitting Patterns (1972, 1998)
Charted Knitting Designs: A Treasury of Knitting Patterns (1982)
Fourth Treasury of Knitting Patterns (2000)

So... which are the best? I can only afford one at this time.

Some of the titles are very similar, and they may be the same book, just listed differently by the different used book sellers.

Thanks!

I was wondering the same thing a while back, I went with the second volume because I kept reading that that was the one to get if you're into lace patterns, and it does have a ton.

I have 1-3 so far and volume 2 has the most stitch patterns of all types. Volume 3 is all charted (no longhand at all) designs. Her charts are, at least for me, a little confusing. I do love to knit from charts but I find her version harder to follow.

Thanks! Anyone else?

I think I'm going to have to look at the books in person. My library doesn't have them, but I can possibly get them through an inter-library loan. I need to LOOK at the charts to see if they make sense to me.

the second is my favorite, most used knitting book I own (and trust me, I have a LOT of books, LOL!)

I use the first more often, but maybe I should pull the second out and give it another look!

I think they're both great, though -- get one now, and then put the other one on your wishlist.

I look at one and two most often, but then I only just got 4 recently, so haven't really looked at it too much yet.
