I'll admit it, every time my m/w has asked me "Any contractions?" I've answered, "I don't know."

I mean, there've been all kinds of strange sensations associated with my "baby area" lately. But I just noticed that a certain one of those sensations seems to be associated with my uterus getting tight and hard. So when I see her on Wednesday, maybe I'll be able to answer, "Maybe."

Hehe. I've been calling it my 'baby area' too. And I know what you mean about the BH. I've had two that I'm certain of and lots of maybes (determined by having my hands constantly on my belly).

So you're actually feeling them from the inside? Can you describe the sensation? I'm sure it's different for everyone, but I'm curious to see if I can notice the same thing.

This is my third and I just discovered what BH contrax were!!! That was only because I happened to have my hand on my belly when it went hard.
It's the same for other things too, I'm on number 3 but still have a lot to learn!!

It isn't isolated to first time moms. My M/Ws also ask, and today I finally said -- well, I'm sure I've got some contractions going as I do feel the occasionally tightening but they aren't of substance or consequence so I rarely pay attention.

I remember 1 BH with DD. One time of "whoa - what was that?" But, I'm sure all of us experience some...they just aren't always the kind of thing that makes you stop what your doing or brings you to your knees or anything.

Mine, if I feel anything internally, feel kind of like gas.

Then again, I'm so farty and disgusting right now, it could just be that I happen to have gas whenever my uterus tightens. I mean, I have gas like 99.9% of the time lately, why not then?

Yeah, I think I'm carrying twins-- one human baby and one gas baby-- and both seem quite happy to stay put inside me and just battle it out for space. Waaahhhh....

I've been wondering the same thing! (And thinking of myself as a clueless 1st timer!) Every time the m/w asks me, I say "I don't know," or "maybe?", or something to that effect. And I keep reading that BH should be getting stronger and more uncomfortable and more frequent as you get closer to labor. Since I'm 40 weeks on Friday and still in the "I don't know, maybe?" phase, I think I may never ever have this child. :

chiming in to reassure the first timers that it's not just you. Sometimes I only feel it when I am walking around the house and reach for my belly to give it a rub. Only then do I notice it's all hard and tight.

I think BH can feel different for everyone. Sometimes more uncomfortable, sometimes kinda farty :-)

My OB asked me last week if I was feeling anything happening. I paused and said "like what?" I wanted her to tell me what it should feel like .
I certainly know what a contraction feels like - i had 26 hours of them. Buuuut I was induced so I don't know how the natural progression goes...

For me they feel like someone is squeezing my uterus. I kind of feel it tighten up by my ribs so i know when it is happening, other wise i wouldnt notice. I think i have been getting a few more lately, they have definatly been stronger, i am hoping it is a sign of things happening.

To me they feel like tightening. I have had some that are uncomfortable as well. I get to the point where I can't stand anyone moving around or bouncing around where I am at.

i have BH a lot with my babies. this little girl seems to have a bunch lately. honestly, for me it feels like someone grabbing my entire large belly and putting a blood pressure cuff on it and letting it get tight. sometimes it's only in the front on my belly and sometimes it will effect my hips and lower back. They are short in duration though and I've never had one go over 45 sec. really. I HAVE had them take my breath away and make me have to shift in my seat a few times because of how uncomfortable they become.
