When knitting in the round...

...I sometimes use double-pointed needles and sometimes a circular needle. Seeing as I don't have every conceivable size of circ needle, I have to fall back on the DPs...unfortunately, whenever I make socks or a soaker, I always end up with this little indentation where the new needle starts. When the piece is complete, there's a little furrow that goes all the way up, almost as if the same stitch was stretched out on every round. DH tells me that you can't see it a lot but I KNOW it's there, and it bugs the crap out of me!!! :

Does anyone have a trick for how to avoid this?

I know that drives me nuts too! It's called a "ladder." My best way to combat it is to move stitches around on the needles every few rows so that I'm not always having the same stitches between two needles.

Another trick is to make sure you have half of the upsidedown "V" that you make with knitting on one needle, and one half on the other needle. It seems to come together better that way. Pull hard when making that stitch and then resume normal tension.

ladders?

pull the second stitch on the new needle tight

I haven't used DPNs since I learned magic loop - now I do all my knitting on circulars (straight and round). I have a few different sizes in a 47" length and can do almost all my knitting on those. Eliminates needing a hundred different needles, as well as the gap at the join.

Yup, I use magic loop now, too. I'm a tight knitter, and I got ladders no matter what I did when I used dpns. It was hard to pull the next stitch tighter, as my stitches were already quite tight. ML solved that!

Oooooh I think I understand. This is going to take a bit of practice but I'm so *excited* to start knitting my next soaker! Wheee! Thanks ladies

Another magic looper here. No laddering!

Of course, I didn't have laddering problems with DPNs either. I'm not sure why... Lol!

Magic loop is the best thing in the world! I keep one set of dpns for making Icord, but that's it. I ML everything else
