Another Leif update

Hi Mamas. Well we got Leif's tongue clipped. I guess it was pretty severe. I noticed a difference right away with nursing. He was taking in so much and gulping and swallowing. So I took his bottles. He was still having wet diapers, but SOOOO fussy. I thought maybe his tongue just hurt.

We had another LC appointment yesterday. She weighed him before and after feedings. After 45 min of nursing he got 5 grams Poor little guy. She examined my breasts and said she believes I have Insufficient glandular tissue. So that makes 3 LC's and an LLL and a Dr. I guess maybe I should believe them now huh? We fed DS some formula and he stopped crying and went to sleep. I'm going to keep nursing him even if he's only getting a tiny bit. I'm so sad by this but also happy its over. This has been such a long process of trying to figure out whats wrong, starting with my other son almost 2 years ago. I'm happy to at least finally just start focusing on our new normal around here.

She said that would explain why both my boys had such bad jaundice. I don't make enough colostrum to flush out their billirubin so they just get so sick. Which would explain why nursing nursing nursing never worked to clear up our jaundice.

Leif is up to 8lbs 4 oz. He's also very funny and handsome. I'll post some pictures when Rune tells me where he hid my camera

. Thanks for updating us. It's good to have answers, even if they weren't the ones you wanted. I like your phrase "new normal"; sounds like you're having a really good attitude despite all the difficulties.

Can't wait to see the pictures of your funny handsome guy !

Im an IGT mamma and its really hard. Its so confusing and its like banging your head on the wall- no matter what you do -it doesnt completely fix it.

Good luck - dont drive yourself crazy over it. The number one rule is FEED YOUR BABY. If you chose to keep baby at the breast - use an SNS/Lactaid or syringes. If you are comfortable with it -ask for donor milk. BUt remember mamma -its ok - you still love your baby and you are still an awesome mamma!

Hey, I'm glad to hear that you are getting some closure with that. It's also great that you have decided to still give him some breastmilk. I know it's nice that we belong to a community that supports breastfeeding, but sometimes it does feel like there is a lot of pressure to be the perfect booby.

You're doing a wonderful job and though the answers may not be what you were looking for, it's great that you are adapting to what is going to work for you. I think it's awesome that you are still bf'ing him, even if it's a bit of breastmilk it's better than none and the emotional aspect is good for both of you.

It's so good to hear from you and to know that Leif is still doing well. I'm sorry things didn't go the way you'd hoped, but I can't wait to see pictures of your beautiful, healthy son.
