Hey mamas! Just wondering if anyone else is in a similar boat. Here is my situation:

Divorced; dependent spouse support ends this month; childcare paid regularly; work fulltime; three boys (one developmentally disabled) and house poor. That was a term I heard growing up a LOT! My van is paid for (thus can't afford to trade for a lower mileage vehicle) and I have a mortgage.

I am posting b/c on the surface I do not LOOK like I am struggling but am VERY MUCH doing so!

Anyone else experience that?

Just dropping by to say hi

1st post to this group!

Hi all, I posted my story about a week or so ago on this board and someone suggested this thread. We are still struggling. I just got our stimulus check in the bank today and it's 600 less than we hoped we were going to get. It is going directy towards paying electricity, water and car payments! Not one nickle is going towards anything fun or even a nice dinner. It takes a lot out of me to keep up with this world but I've been hanging on!

Hi everyone...new here. I just wanted to add that we have been making an effort to eat out of the pantry and freezer the past 2 weeks. It has been going well and the first week I spent $30 on groceries and last week I spent $50, but over all not too bad for a family of 6 and mostly for fresh produce type things. I am anxious to get my stimulus check, hopefully next friday and I hope there are no mix-ups about our amt. due. Anyway, looking forward to being here :-)

I also can't wait until my stimulus check comes (even if it ends up not being as much as I hope it is) Of course it's already spent () on bills, mostly, but at least it will help bring my out of control bill situation under a little bit of control (I hope, anyway)
It's cold and rainy here in Connecticut, what happened to spring?!? Anyways, gotta go.

Hi this is abig month for us. We find out if we get our morgage that would allow us to keep our home of the last 10 years :cross fingers:

On the down side we got a new food stamp case worker and she has decided DH's income is not self employment so we will only be getting 100 dollars in food stamps for the 5 of us.

So now we have less than 1000 dollars a month to live on for everything. I am kinda freaking out. I am so dreading 12 more months of this crap.

Sure wish I had a friend or 2 near by I am feeling sorry for myself

We went grocery shopping tonight, woohoo , but we left the kids at home so it was the closest thing to a date we can get.

I did learn something interesting though. We are starting to use cloth bags at the store, we get them when we can afford them. Anyway the cashier (this was at the evil evil Walmart) said that in about a year they won't have plastic grocery bags anymore. I was really surprised. I asked her what they were going to do and she said they will have cloth bags and either boxes or paper bags.

We had a reallllly frugal-but-tasty dinner (black bean/corn salad) and watched a movie from the $1 rental box at the grocery store (excellent choice). Not the Date Night of my dreams, but it was good.

It's hot.

I don't want to pay for A/C.

But soon I will have no choice.

I noticed our dogs scratching quite a bit recently and investigated...fleas! I can't afford to buy enough Advantage for 3 dogs this month (or next month...or for the forseeable future...) so I tried some natural stuff from PetSmart; it has cinnamon, cloves, and peppermint in it. The dogs now smell like liniment. I hope it works...I'm saving the receipt.

Hi ladies, I'm back again. Things started to look up for us when I got my new job. Now, I'n disenchanted with the job because of the manager. On the up side, I did get a promotion from cashier to assistant manager. The company still has not given me my raise. I guess I'll have to talk to the district manager myself. I could really use the $10 an hour the job pays.

We just found out that our house has lead and that we need to have upwards of 5K worth of work done on it. I would be cheaper to just move back to N.O. metro area. I'm trying to hang in here as long as I can but things are starting to really get to me and my depression is coming back.

DH just recently got a Dx of PTSS and major depression bordering on manic. He will be seeing the doc next week. I'm glad to know that he has taken the first step towards getting help for himself.

Sorry for the whine, just needed to get some things off my chest. Tomorrow is grocery day and I'm still trying to find ways of feeding the hungry horde on the little food stamps that they give to me each month. The price of food is so dang high. It's looking like we will be eating lots of bean and rice dishes. Very little meat.

Does anyone know or think that it's to late to start a garden? I really need to get a handle on or food budget. HELP!!!!!!!

Thanks for reading if you got this far.

love and blessings
