Republican.

And if I could, I'd put in the votes of my six intactivist friends who are also all Republican.

If this ever became a major national issue (like abortion or something) I wonder what party would pick up the issue, and which denounce it?

Question: If this ever became a hot topic openly discussed, national issue, and your party was against banning circumcisions for infants, would you consider changing parties? If not, what would you do?

good question. I don't think I could support a canidate or party that was pro-MGM. However, with that being said, there are many isues to weigh, when you have to cast a vote for someone.

You have to prioritize these issues. Some are tough to choose between!
Should I choose the rock or the hard place? For instance, what's more important to you: reducing crime or improving the educational system? There are so many of these tough choices in life, esp. when voting.

Well let me ask you this, would you ever consider voting for a candidate or a party that wanted to legalize female circumcision in the United States again. Yet at the same time, they supported other issues that were very important to you (like improving the education system, or reducing crime).

I voted Republican because I'm registered Republican and usually vote that way, but my political philosophy is really more libertarian.

Would I support a party that wanted to re-legalize FGM? I can't imagine on what grounds someone would take that platform, so probably not. If they supported MGM, I would probably think they were just another sad, misinformed American so I probably wouldn't change my stance for that.

So you would change your stance from a party/candidate that supported to legalize FGM, but not for one that wanted to keep MGM legal?

Well I am Independent, but tend to vote Dem. Would I vote for an
anti-circ Republican party?

I doubt that I would ever have to make such a decision, because according to our informal poll, I think the Dems are more likely to pick it up before any of the other parties do. You should ask a Republican this instead.

I am asking, IF you did happen to be in this situation, what would you do (what your actual chances are of being in this situation makes no difference). If you had a candidate/party that was supporting many of the issues that you found very important, would you would still vote for them if they also wanted to legalize FGM in America again.

Libertarian, voting "other".

Not exactly. As far as FGM, if someone said they wanted to re-legalize it I would think they had lost their mind and I absolutely would not support that candidate. As a political strategy, I would imagine most Americans would also think that candidate had lost their mind so I can't imagine he/she would even be supported by the party.

If a candidate said he wanted to keep MGM legal, it would depend very strongly on his rationale or why it even came up. Say if he were at a town hall-style meeting and someone asked him out of the blue if he would support making MGM illegal, and he gave that person a quizzical look and fumbled with something like "no, because it's healthier," I would most likely assume he hadn't really given it much thought and was just saying what he thought his constituents wanted to hear. I can forgive someone for being a victim of the campaign of misinformation brought on by the medical profession of the last century. He could also say he was against passing a bill but he wanted to make sure there was no government funding for circs, or would support making the use of foreskins in cosmetic products illegal, or would support a public information campaign to make parents aware that the procedure was harmful, then I could also forgive him. At least that's a step in the right direction.

OTOH, if the lame-stream media had been talking about the MGM bill and I knew he had a chance to think about it and still came up with something stupid, then he better have some very VERY strong redeeming other qualities. I'm extremely close to switching to the Libertarian party as it is and something like that could very well push me over the edge.

this is a dead-end question. It's so far out there, that there's no point in putting anymore engry into it....

I'm a dem too. I'm just too old and too cynical to vote idealistically for Nader.

Can I ask why you wont answer the question? All of this is hypothetical, seeing as I doubt circumcision is going to be a main stream, major topic issue in politics anytime soon. So why answer one hypothetical question, but avoid the other?
