My kitty is dying...

Cacilie has a disease that affects 2-5% of cats. It's a disease that her sister, Mindy (my forever cat), succumbed to in December (Happy Chanukah to us ), and it's one that's compromised her immune system and led her to all these other crazy secondary infections. She's not even 2 years old, and she's lost vision in one eye and had to have 3 blood transfusions for different things. We now have her on subcutaneous fluids that we give to her (our house is looking like a veterinary hospital nowadays) and she's quarantined from our other 2 cats, as the disease is contagious.

We found out two days ago that she has kidney cancer as well now. Her kidneys are the size of my fists (she's a 7lb cat, a little thing), and she's lost tons of weight.

She stopped eating yesterday, after doing so well on fluids, and has been throwing up anything we manage to get her to eat. We're taking her in tomorrow for another check-up, but we've resigned ourselves to the fact that she won't be with us much longer. We knew this day was coming, but with all the joy in our lives, with us reaching 9mos with this babe and qualifying today for our birth center birth, we're not at a point where we feel like we can really deal emotionally with the trauma of losing another of our loved ones.

She's just a little furry heartbreak waiting to happen, and I hope she lasts long enough to meet our baby. We thought she was going to be with us for at least 10 years, if not 20, and we're only getting about 2 with her.

If you pray for animals, could you pray for her? She's made amazing recoveries before and we just gave her more fluids, so we're hoping she'll fight off whatever infection she has now and feel better.

I'm praying for her. Poor kitty. Poor you. I don't know what I'd do if anything happened to my kitties

Oh my goodness Sara, I am so sorry your sweet little girl is preparing to go home so soon after her sister. My heart is breaking for you as I have lost a kitty to kidney problems before and there is nothing worse than watching your loved one suffer.

Our 12 week old kitty Jinx died two days before Christmas 4 years ago and his loss still is heavy in our heart and we only had him for a few weeks, not a few years. Kitties are special "people" and your Cacilie is in my prayers. A mountain of s to you, your DH, and the rest of your furry family.

Losing a best friend is never easy...be it furry or not. I too have lost a kitty that we only had a short time, and it was the most awful thing. I pray for kitties...and your's and your family will be in my prayers. Take it easy mama. big hugs!

Ugh, I am so sorry for your little cat! My family had a cat that lived to 20+ years, but when it was her time to go we were really okay with it, especially since she had been through so much in her long life (a nearly-fatal bout of pneumonia when she was a kitten, her tail being degloved in a door and subsequently amputated, a brain infection, a neurological disorder when she was a bit older, and blindness, etc) She had just had a long life and we were ready for her to go. But we had a little kitten named Inky who was actually the kitten of my grandmother's cat and was less than a week old when my grandmother died, so we got her (and the mother cat, of course) and as we eventually found homes for the rest of the kittens, we kept Inky and she became our last connection to my grandmother. Well, she suddenly became so ill around 2 years old that she was just suffering so much that we had to euthanize her. One day she was fine and the next day she was gone and it was *so hard*!! It just didn't seem right since she was so young.

AAAK, I've been without cats for four years, can't you tell I miss them by how much I can blab about them?? Sorry for my blabbery!

Anyway, I so very much hope that your kitten gets better really really fast! I totally feel for you! Or, if she passes, I wish you peace with it, although I know it'll take a while...

I am sorry to hear about your girl she is the same age and just a little bigger then my lucinda. I will light a candle for her, and keep her and you in my thoughts. It really sucks that this is happening, epesially so soon after the loss of your other cat.

I'm so sorry for you and your sweet kitty!!! She's definitely in my thoughts and prayers. Sorry that this is happening now, too.

Oh no. I am sorry I missed this until now. I will say a prayer for you all - please keep us posted. I am a big cat lover and this hurts my heart to read.

Hugs, Sara.

Prayers sent. I'm so sorry you're having to deal with this now. I lost one of my dogs much too early in February. I'm just so sorry.

Please update when you can.

I am so sorry she's ill with a dim prognosis. It's hard to love them and lose them so fast.

I have had two cats with feline luekemia and have nursed them through all the secondary issues that come with the damaged immune system and it's so hard to know that one day they won't bounce back. All you can do is love them while they are here.

I'll be thinking of you all.

We had to put Cacilie to sleep this morning. We just got back from the vet's. It's so hard, but we're hoping there is a little boy in heaven who really wants a kitty and that's why she was taken so young. At least now we know that she's with her sister Mindy and no longer in pain. I'm doing ok, but she was my husband's cat, and he's having a rough time. We're going to go clean now, so we can open her quarantined area to our other kitties.

Thanks so much for all your prayers.

Oh Sara, I am so very sorry. Big hugs to you. Your perspective is beautiful, and I believe that is what happened too.
