Does your ped give out samples? - Page 2

The one we had when my son was born gave us a 6-pack of pre-mixed formula in cans and told me to stop breastfeeding for 24 hours because of breastmilk jaundice, this just after DS was finally released from the hospital where the ped insisted he was given formula for "failure to thrive" after my milk hadn't come in yet at 3 days and in addition to weeks of him being stuck on the heel every day for bili tests. Ugh, if only I had known what I now know back then! :

Ours gave full sized cans, but only to moms that were allready using it. My dd was formula fed and he saved us a lot of money. We went through several formulas to find one she tollerated well, and every time we switched he provided about 2 weeks worth from his formula closet so that we wouldn't hve to go out and buy it, only to discover it made her sick and have to throw it away. He aslo had his wife call me,and sent a nurse/lc to our house to help with our latch problems before we gave up and used formula. I miss that doctor, but we moved to another county.

I love my ped. She won't even see the formula company reps

Mine doesn't but she isn't ONLY a ped- she's also an internist and a general practitioner so that may be why. The only samples I've ever seen were for butt paste- which i took a bunch of lol

Nope. He encourages EBF and extended BF and gives hand-outs to everyone with info and contact numbers for support. He also supports no vac & selective vac, ignores those standard weight percentile charts and is happy we've only seen him twice in one year. Super guy.

My ped has them but doesn't advertise.

I think it's a but unrealistic to have a dr completely do away with samples though. There are moms that just aren't going to bf, and they shouldn't be eliminated simply because of that and there are babies that need additional nutrition (don't get mad, I speak from experience). I know when ds#2 had to have his hernia surgery, he had to gain a few lbs in 2 weeks time before they could do it, and he just wasn't gaining on my milk so our ped gave me about $100 in NeoSure formula. I was very grateful.

mine has never offered but he knows how pro breast feeding i am. he has samples all over the place and the little booklet all parents get has terrible advice in it. i want to find a better doctor and am looking around for one.
