infected montgomery's gland?

One of the montgomery's glands (at least I think that's what it is) on my areola looks infected. It's very red and swollen and it feels like there's a pea-sized lump underneath it. It really hurts especially when I'm nursing. My baby is almost 4 weeks old. Any ideas?

Thanks

Hmmm...Could you have a plug of milk there? Is it open? Could it be a blister? Do you have any other soreness? Try to nurse on the least sore side first so the strenght of your babies suck is lessened on the sore side. You could try a warm compress. Keep the area clean and dry as possible. You can rub a few drops of breastmilk on it after a feeding to help fight infection. If it doesn't clear up you may want to see an IBCLC or a good doctor.

I had one of those during those early weeks too...It went away within a few days though so I never got it checked out. I'd follow the previous poster's advice, and get it checked out if it doesn't clear up soon. Good luck, and congrats on your new baby!!
