Hi all..

Just want to get a feel for this idea - I have started a pregnancy and birth 'gallery' on my website. I have done some art work to work through my birth rape and subsequent unneccesarean. I have 3 separate galleries, one for pregnancy related art, one for birth related and one for birth trauma.

I would love for this to grow and want to add art from many contributors. If it gets big enough, I'll start a separate site. Nothing in the gallery is for specifically for sale, I just want to put it out there.

Would anyone here be interested in contributing? I would post pictures with or without identifying info. I would also be more than happy to link to your business or personal web site if you'd like.

Is there any interest?

Inspired is good!!

My therapist was the one to suggest trying to work though some of the trauma with art...it's what I do anyway, so why not?

I started with trying to visualize the beauty of birth (that was my first assignment) I was hoping by refocusing on the great things about my pregnancy and early labor, that I would be able to over shadow the horror...It worked for a bit as you can see by the early stuff...bellys etc...then the section stuff just sort of started happening. I think that was just part of the process for me.

I would love to see where your inspiration takes you!

What a great idea! I'd love to contribute once I have a little time to devote to artwork. I've been busy writing... I'll try and set aside some time soon.

I think it is a great idea, and I like the idea of using art as a therapeutic outlet to help heal birth trauma. When I first found the pictures at http://cesarean-art.com/, I was really moved by them, and it brought out a lot of feelings about my first birth that I hadn't yet acknowledged or dealt with. Seeing your work had the same effect - a feeling of relief that I wasn't the only person struggling with frustration and pain over a c-section, and then seeing the experience transformed through art made it seem less uncontrollable and frightening.

OT, but I wish I had a groovy nipple hat in my size...wouldn't that spark conversation at the playground!

I *love* it! Could you PM me? I would like to have a Gardeners bracelet, with watering cans, clay pots, bees, and flowers. what do you think? And another idea, might be a Midwife bracelet. Maybe with uteri, pinard horns(only a birth junkie would know what that is! hehehe), sling scale, and pairs of hands? Think that might work? That's my contribution, as I am in the middle of making handmade wooden pens for a wedding at the end of the month! I am thinking of getting a pair, to provoke conversation, even if I have never had a section! thanks for sharing!

Thank you all!! I'm glad it moves people - I guess that's the point!

The nipple hat started out as a joke...but, I guess I'll sell them if it's getting this kind of response!

I thought it was a bit strange at first - but bless my therapist, she knows that I express myself well this way. We tried journaling, but I was an abject failure at that. I ended up writing about what I wanted to feel, rather than what I was actually feeling.

I have a few prints from the website you linked. She has closed it for public viewing for now but I have e-mailed her asking if she would like to contribute to my gallery. Her shower picture brought me to tears and I purchased that one as well as 2 others.

I can do the hat in your size if you really want one I was thinking of offering it up inthe next craft swap!
