first-timer question re: colustrum

Is it normal to have had no leaking breasts at all? Monday May 5 is my due date, and I've no action in that department at all. I think Mimi will come later than the 5th, but I've read and heard so much about leaky boobs... Is not having any leaks normal?

Thanks!

No leaks is normal. I didn't leak with dd or this pregnancy ahead of time. I could *express* colostrum both times. But it didn't leak on its own.

Yeah, thats totally normal. Some women are just leakier than others. I never ever leak. I'm pretty sure you have colostrum right now, just you have to express it to see it; your baby will get it just fine on its own.

I never leak during pregnancy either. I've had colostrum since 16 weeks (18 weeks with DD) and I can always squeeze it out but never leak.

I never leaked with dd and am not leaking now (in spite of knowing that there's something in there b/c I can hear dd swallow when she's nursing). Once my milk came in with dd I had plenty of a supply, in fact a bit of an oversupply for quite a long time.

No leaks either time with me either. I don't think that most women leak. I believe that the norm is that the colostrum is ready and waiting to be expressed when the baby comes.

Thank you so much. I was starting to worry that maybe I wasn't making any or wouldn't have any milk when the baby comes.

I feel better now. Both of my cousins apparently produced so much milk they donated a lot of it to shelters or food banks. Hopefully I'll be productive, too!

I'm really glad I found this site. Knowledgable moms who share my principles and ideas about childbirth, etc.

Ditto everyone else. Totally normal.

I have never leaked colostrum and hardly was ever able to hand express any before birth and, let me tell you, I never had a supply problem. In fact, I could've easily donated BM to a milk bank b/c I had so much but, unfortunately, I don't know of any in my area.

I can't even express anything right now, despite having nursed ds until just a couple of months ago. I have never leaked during pregnancy, but I had a great supply (with tons of leakage, lol) a few days after ds was born.

Yup, I can express (took me a while to figure out how), and have been able to for quite a while now, but have never had a leak. Some boobies are leakier than others, or so I've been told.

Yup! Expressing is even difficult for me. But when the milk comes -- WHOA! Cups runneth over...and run and run for a long, long time!

I don't leak and I can't express colostrum at all. Only reason I know I have some is my nursing child tells me so. Totally normal!

totally normal. I didn't leak before DS, and I didn't leak after him. Now, this time, I have been a little leaky... I have joked that I finally have real proof that colustrum exists, lol.

its fine. I nursed DS for 2 years, and never leaked a bit... so it really doesn't affect anything.

I was also never engorged, and never could pump much... good thing I didn't need to.
