Just got my ELISA results... - Page 2

I am curious to know if the test showed you reactive to the other gluten grains - spelt, rye, etc.?

Barley came back ok, which I thought was weird because I thought it was a gluten grain. I called and asked how that was possible, and they didn't really give me a great explanation. But I guess maybe because it has a lower gluten percentage than wheat.

The rye test is still pending (not sure why, or when I'll get those results), and I think that was the only other gluten grain tested.

Maybe they didn't explain that you can be intolerant to gluten and not officially allergic to it. My allergy testing has never shown any gluten grain allergies, but I am extremely intolerant to gluten.

restricted diets...

I'm pretty new to all of this but I would like to add a comment. I'm a breastfeeding working mother to a 17 month old and a 2.99 year old (three in a few days). We have extensive food allergies including corn, soy, eggs, rice, oats, spelt, chicken, nuts, peanuts, shellfish, fish, and I could go on. My advice: go on a rotation diet. O.k., I have more advice than that. Don't trust the test. Do a food challenge where you take the food out of your diet completely for 4 days and on the fifth day eat only that food and water for breakfast. If you are intolerant, you'll notice a reaction. Avoid that food for a few months then retest. DON'T obviously test foods that would kill you (for example peanuts) but test foods you are intolerant of. It will get easier to manage and you'll be surprised how good food can be without all that crap. I'm sorry to hear about anybody dealing with food allergies but it can be done and it will get easier!

I know this is a dead thread, but the reason they test for cows milk and then different kinds of cheeses or yogurt, is that to make cheeses or yougurts, you have to add flavorings to milk of some kind. You can make a cheddar flavored soy cheese for example or make yogurt from coconut milk, but the enzymes or flavorings you are adding to a non dairy milk, you are also allergic to.
