wrap-n-mats??

Does anyone have any? How do you like them, are they worth the $$? My kids do the occasional sandwich for the school I would love to stop the baggie madness.

I read that you can line them with waxed paper, so I just started using waxed paper. My son is in preshool and he doesnt know the difference. I swear I hardly use baggies anymore, I have some other little containers I use for snacks and sides too.

I may get some in the future, I love reusuablebags.com

I have 5 wrap-n-mats. I used to have 6 but one of the camp counslers threw it away.

I love them. Anything I would put in a baggy goes the wrap-n-mat.
The only thing I don't like is that they can be a little small depending on what type of bread I am using.

I love my wrap n' mats. DD or I (or both of us) use one almost every day. They are a bit snug on our *biggest* bread but not really a problem. I was thinking of getting a couple more (we only have 2) because I like to rinse them off every time I use them and some days I don't have a dry one. Do you wash every time?

I may be switching to waxed paper for dd next year as I'm not sure the w'n'm will make it back from kindergarten every day.

For those that use wax paper aren't you still throwing them away when done?

I have one wrap-n-mat and really need to get a second one. IT's great, easy to clean, and even works when my dh takes a pair of pb sandwiches with him.

We love them. They also double as a place mat/plate during snack and meal time.

Does anyone know what they are made out of. Would it be teh same as taking a lightweight placemat and factioning it to be a sandwich holder cause that's what they look like.

I love my wrap-n-mats. So easy to use and drastically cuts back our disposable usage. The preschool I work at sold them as a fundraiser and encouraging the parents to use them has reduced our waste by about a bag a week. Not too shabby!

Some are made out of PEVA and others are made out of PVC. I haven't bought any yet b/c the PEVA ones are MIC and the PVC ones are made in teh US. I'm very conflicted on this topic. Do I buy the safer one, even though it's MIC, or buy one that could leach that's made in the US?

I have 4 and I love them. We do wash them every time but only because they usually get smeared with peanut butter or jam. My son's preschool even sold them this year as a fundraiser, what a great idea (so much better than selling wrapping paper!).

I have concerns with using PVC next to my food. Do they have an oilcloth or canvas version or something made without BPA, phenols or parabens?

It's made from PEVA it says on their site isn't that different than PVC? What are other alternatives I wonder.

Those look like they'd be pretty easy to make a version of at home. Those of you who have seen them in person, what do you think?

I wonder if PVC is really any safer than PUL? I tried to contact Fabrite (who manufactures Polyurethane laminated fabric) and they never answered my question about whether it's food-grade safe or not. I have a ton of PUL laying around.

That is what I was thinking. I was looking at them, and actually pulled out an old placemat to fold and play with.

I got one to try, and I couldn't believe how much it was off-gassing once I took it out of the package. Kinda freaked me out. I'm not sure what ended up happening to it. I think I meant to wash it to see if that would help, but I never ended up trying it.

We use Happy Sacks, which are made and sold locally, so are an easy choice. I've really been quite happy with them. They feel very safe and work well for sandwiches and any other snack that you would otherwise put in a plastic baggie.

It's when an unnatural, non-metal material gives off a toxic sort of smell when it's new. Paints also off-gas (hence the smell), new cars off-gas . . . And to me it seemed that the wrap-n-mat was off-gassing. I am particularly sensitive to it.
