Hospital pushing DTaP as well as Hep B at birth...

My baby girl was born 9 weeks ago at a hospital, they were trying to push a birth dose of DTaP along with the Hep B. Anyone else experience this? I knew they may recommend Hep B at birth (no thanks) but DTaP? I have found no changes in recommendations, so what the heck is this all about?

I've never heard of pushing a birth dose of DTaP on a baby. I can't imagine that it's even recommended.

Now I wouldn't be suprised if they would try to push a TdaP on the parents.

Makes sense to me...damage them before you get to know them and you won't realize that they have been harmed!

I know - cynical - but it really makes you wonder!

Even though I'm sure they are either unaware or fail to mention that it will not prevent transmission.

I've not heard of that! I had a baby 4 weeks ago and it was never brought up. If I may ask, what state?

I have not heard of that! I thought they start this at 2 months. I do know that they are giving mom the DTap and MMR in hospitals now. I heard this from 2 women who just had babies

We're in Ohio. The doctor was definitely pushing the vaxes for the babe and not me. I thought it was odd, but wasn't really surprised considering. Now that I'm thinking about it again it was just the one doctor who said anything about it and he said the DTaP was now available for newborns as a birth dose. I hadn't (and haven't) read or heard this elsewhere, but I wasn't interested in arguing with the guy. I just declined.

I have not seen anywhere that the DTaP is approved for a birth dose. I know there was a RESEARCH study where they were trying it... I wonder if that's what he was after.

Lovely, especially since the MMR is sketchy for breastfeeding women!!

The DTaP isn't recommended (or even approved, I don't think) as a birth dose.
Could he have been trying to enroll you in some sort of clinical trial for it or something?

At Birth?!

If it was to be for research or a clinical trial he made no mention of it to me. I'm not sure what current practices are for this type of thing, but it seems quite unethical to me to not say so plainly. I suppose that may make it near impossible to get enough people to comply to do a valid study though. I hope no harm comes to any of the other babes born at the same time/hospital who's parents complied to the birth dose, if it wasn't just some one-time/mistake offering by that doctor.

I'm in Ohio. Can you PM me the hosp or Dr. name that this was...I would look into reporting this or digging further...this sounds fishy to me.

I, too, saw a vaccine seminar agenda that included a panel on giving Dtap at birth, so I knew it was where we are heading.

So sad. I bet the number of severe reactions and deaths from that vaccine will be much higher now, and what will it do to the "SIDS deaths" that peak at 8 and 9 weeks?

I'm in NY, due to delivery in June. Even Hep B is optional at my hospital, and no other vaccinations are recommended or suggested.

Vita K is not I declined it for ODD (hosp. birth) and my mother declined it with me. Eye ointment Breastmilk or colostrum is on the health department list in ohio as ok.
