Comfy Bummy ad

I just got an e-mail from Comf Bummy about their Mother's Day sale. And right there at the top of the page is a soft lit cozy pic of mom and baby, with a bottle stuffed in the baby's mouth. How nice that a cloth diaper/natural store has that image of a mother and her baby, and that they are sharing it with all on their e-mail list.

: I hate that! I feel your pain.

I think I would have the same "ugh" gut reaction. HOWEVER, is it possible it's the owner's child/niece/nephew/grandchild? Is it advertising any ABM-related product (like ABM/bottle/etc) or any product at all I suppose? If so, then I'd be more concerned (even if the child WAS related to site owner).

It certainly does seem weird to find that image associated with a CD/Natural baby store, though.

What is ABM? I can forward the e-mail to you if you want to take a look at it.

Yeah, sorry. ABM = Artificial Baby Milk. I would be interested in seeing it. I'm still hoping it's a pic of the site owner's relative and not what they consider to be an appropriate universal baby symbol...

Oh ok I get it.

Even if it was not the actual mother and child in the pic, they could have done it nicely without the bottle. Feeding my kids isn't the only thing I do for them.

They aren't even showing the baby wearing a cloth diaper. So I'm not real sure what the point of the pic is other than show their idea of a mother and child moment.

Probably they just bought a stock photo, and either didn't pay enough attention to it, or tried to save money by getting whatever was cheap instead of something that was very suitable for their brand.

Well, personally, I think it IS sending the wrong message. Because sadly when one sees a bottle it is an automatic assumption that it IS formula. If they truly wanted to promote natural parenting, the babe would be nursing...JMO.

I see where you are coming from, but most people see a bottle and think formula. I was fortunate enough to never use a bottle with any of my 4 kids. I realize that that is nearly impossible for most these days. Think what you will, but I would be more apt to but from a company promoting bfing.

I think all she was trying to say was that she found the image incongruous with the store brand. I can understand that.

- says Ellien, proud WOHM who used paid childcare providers to bottle feed expressed BM while she worked full-time and used cloth diapers.

I don't think theres anything all that wrong. I think its sad that we assume all bottles are full of ABM or that we know why its given, or that natural stores only have to show what some see as the natural way of feeding. My DD is fed by a tube through a hole cut in her tummy, and I use natural stores....>She's also beginning to use a bottle. It doesn't make me any less "ap" or "natural" or NFL oriented. Its just life. If you would like to see it changed, why not email them? OFffer them a photo of you nursing your child in one of their diapers, or otherwise using their products without involving infant feeding at all.
