Advice on intact son with discomfort

My 18 month old is intact and seems very uncomfortable at times. Since he was only a few months old (don't remember when exactly this began) he will occasionally tense his whole body and clench his fists in his crotch.

At first we were worried he was seizing--yes, his body gets that tense--but as he grew older it became clear that is not the case because he is easily distracted out of it and is aware of his surroundings. He'll then tense his bod back up again after a brief distraction. After 5-15 minutes it will go away. One time when he was doing this while we were changing him we noticed he had an erection, which has led us to think that maybe he has a problem with his foreskin. We've noticed erections many more times while he's been in this condition.

This seems to come in phases. It will happen several times over the course of a week and then not again for a few months.

We've talked with the pediatrician about it and she doesn't seem to know what to make of it. She was mainly just concerned that it's not a seizure.

Any ideas?

Might be from the seperating process. Sometimes that can cause discomfort. Maybe he just doesn't like the way having an erection feels or sometimes his penis is positioned weird in his diaper so it hurts when he gets an erection. That's all I can think of right now.

Thats exactly what I thought. I suggest doing some research just to be sure.

Erections are normal in little boys, even babies. Sometimes, as the separation of the foreskin from the glans gradually proceeds, erections can put some tension on the spots where the foreskin is still attached. I'd imagine this could produce some sensation, possibly uncomfortable, at times. That's my best guess as to what might be going on.

I feel the same as the pp's. I am assuming that you nor anyone else has retracted him at any time or do so on a regular basis. That could cause some major complications. But outside of that I would guess he dosnt like the feeling of the erection. I know my ds dosnt he gets mad when it happens and wants it to go down.
