Here's my update!
Liam was born on 5/4/08 @ 7:21 am by c-section.
Weight: 9lbs 1 oz Length: 21 inches Head: 15 inches Chest: 14 inches
Labor started on 5/3/08 at 1 am with SROM. By 7 pm I had only dilated to about 2 cm and I was not dealing well with contractions. So we decided to transfer to the hospital at 9 pm. I was given some pitocin to see if we could speed things up. I wanted an epidural to handle the contractions, but I did not end up getting it until 4 am on 5/04, because they either had to make sure the baby was tolerating the pitocin well, or get my blood type, or some such excuse. Anyways, when I finally did get the epidural, it did not work on my right side. The anesthesiologist upped the dosage various times, which gave me intense shivers, but did not fix the problem. I started worrying about what all that anesthesia was doing to the baby. But he was such a trooper, his heart rate was great the entire time. Finally around 6 am they checked me again and I was only 4 cm. Nobody was pressuring me to get a C-section or give up. They all actually wanted me to continue laboring. But for some reason I was really freaked out that the epidural was not working. I felt that continuing to try to labor was going to put the baby in danger. I don't know why, b/c there was never any danger, but I really started to freak out. So I ended up asking for the C-section. They did a spinal which thankfully did take, and he was born early Sunday morning. We just got home and I'll try to get back on later and give you all more info, but that's it so far.
What I really want everyone to know is that I am SOOOOOOO happy with this birth. I had thought that I would be crushed if I did not get my VBAC. But the fact that I got to make the decisions and no one ever pressured me made all the difference. I think that has made a huge difference because I still have not gotten the baby blues, which I did with the first C-section.
Ok, time to feed the baby! Take care everyone, and thank you for all your support!!!
