Europe Vs. The US

Here is an interesting sheet from advocates for youth which compares the rates of pregnancy, STD, and HIV among some other things between teens from the US and Europe. Of particular note:
Quote:
  • In the United States, the estimated HIV prevalence rate in young men ages 15 to 24 is over five times higher than the rate in Germany, nearly three times higher than the rate in the Netherlands, and about 1 ½ times higher than that in France.
  • In the United States, the teen syphilis rate is over six times higher than that of the Netherlands, over five times higher than the rate in former West Germany, and nearly three times higher than that in former East Germany. Data are not available for France.
  • In the United States, the teen gonorrhea rate is over 74 times higher than that in the Netherlands and France, over 66 times higher than the rate in former West Germany, and over 38 times higher than that in former East Germany.
  • In the United States, the teen chlamydia rate is over 20 times higher than that in France. Data are not available for Germany or the Netherlands.
Kind of interesting isn't it?

Gee...ya' mean circumsicion doesn't cure all those things? Who knew?
Wait, sex education...condoms? Why would we want those? That might encourage our kids to have sex, because obviously, they aren't doing that already. :

Interesting. The only part that I found weird is that they only mentioned HIV rate in teen males and not teenage females, while all the others stats are just "teenagers" in general. I have noticed more of a tendancy lately to talk about HIV in the US in relation to males, as if woman dont spread it just as much.

I think this might relate to the new AIDS/CIRC stuff thats trying to be pushed by certain groups. Because if you looked at it from the perspective that (even if the studies were true) circumcision wont make that big of a difference if half the population is not getting the "benefits" of circumcision. And of course that then leads into female circ, and thats something that cant be brought up.

Actually they do have the figures for women and they are about as bad.

Actually, if you remove gay men from the statistics, the infection rate among women is significantly higher. The thinking is that women are more susceptible to infection because of the different anatomy.

Now, before anybody jumps on me, HIV tends to spread among identifiable groups and this is the reason it spread among gays. Gays have sex with gays and straights have sex with straights. The same phenomena can be seen in African Americans where the infection rate is relatively much higher. The infection got into the African American segment of the population and tended to spread in that population because African Americans tend to have sex exclusively with other African Americans.
