Milk blister won't budge

DD is now six months old, and it looks like I have my first milk blister/plugged duct. Yesterday morning, I woke up feeling really engorged in one breast, and noticed a little whitehead-looking thing on that nipple. The pain increased throughout the day, and DD didn't really like nursing on that side (presumably because she was having a hard time getting milk to come through it). I tried warm compresses, drinking lots of fluids, soaking the nipple in warm water, trying to express milk through the blister by hand and by pump (and I only ended up pumping about half the milk from that breast that I usually do, and the blister didn't budge), and removing the blister with my fingernail. Eventually, last night, I got milk to come through the blistered pore, and was able to relieve the engorged feeling. DD is also nursing normally on that side again, and so the engorged painful feeling in the lower half of my breast went away last night. The problem, though, is that I'm worried because the blister itself is still there, and just won't budge!! Does anyone have any experience with this? I have NOT had good experiences at my OB/Gyn's office, and would really hate to have to go back there and have them remove it with a needle or something, sounds awful TIA!

I had a recurrent bleb when dd was an infant. I figured out that it was caused by her nursing in the sling. Once I stopped doing that, it went away for good.

Can you nurse her in different positions so her mouth puts pressure on all sides of your areola?

I had a plugged duct/infection with a milk blister when DS was about 2 months old, and if I remember right, the blister area still looked white for a while after it was unblocked. I soaked the breast in a bowl of hot water for 5-10 minutes a couple times a day, and after a couple days the white spot wasn't there anymore. Don't know if that helps you...

i just responded on another thread that I has a reoccuring bleb that I tried to get rid of with all the traditional methods - even soaked my boob in espsom salts! Finally I got the needle out and poked a hole to release the pressure (Never a good idea, but I was soooo desperate). After the 3rd time fighting it I started reaching out. The CLC had no suggestions besides kellymom, and my family doctor - god bless that man - suggested a mix of 1% hydrocortisone and a generic antifungal on the figer tip and apply just a bit (wipe off before nursing). And it did the trick! and no reoccurance since!!! It was horribley painful - I am sorry you have had to go through this.

PS - forgot to say, DS was also 6 mo while this was happening to me, and it correlated with winter break - I think it is possible not pumping as much may have contributed.
