I might be crazy but I always tell my family as soon as I find out I'm pregnant. Since we're only a week away from Mother's Day, I think I can wait a week. Does anyone have any cute ideas on how to announce it to my mother and my MIL? We'll be getting together with both at different times next weekend. I have two little boys. I thought maybe we should just let our three year old tell them or I thought maybe we could put a "i'm going to be a big brother" shirt on our 1 year old son. Neither of these ideas satisfy me completely. Anyone have any other ideas?

Maybe a new bib? Maybe a new picture frame that can say: to be used January 2009?
I'm still trying to decide how to announce this bean too!

I don't know where I saw it,
but someone put a tee on the older child that read,
"My mommy's knocked up"
I thought that was hilarious, if that would be
taken well.

Thanks for the ideas!
My DS (3yr old) already blew the surprise for my mom. He was talking to to her on the phone and said "We have a new baby." It was very cute and Grandma was very surprised. I helped him explain that the baby is coming in January.
DS has been so excited. He asks a question about it every few minutes. When we got in the car today to go somewhere he asked, "Do you still have the baby?" "Is it sitting in your seat with you?"
When we were looking through picture in the week by week type book to help him understand, he saw a side profile of a mother with the baby inside. So he thinks the baby is on my side. It's pretty cute. It's really fun being pregnant with a kid who is old enough to understand. (Well, kind of understand, anyway!)

I like the idea of announcing on Mother's Day but I'm going to hold off until at leats 12 weeks.
I thought about getting DD a shirt that says "Big Sister".

aww announcing on mothers day that is so sweet!!!!!!!
I saw on tv once that a mama wrote on her sons diaper "I'm going to be a big brother" and then asked her husband to change his diaper and thats when the daddy saw the note, that could be cute, if you do cloth diapers you could take a piece of paper to the cover that says that

My niece and sister are going to be in town for Mother's Day and we're all going out to dinner. I plan on giving my niece a present to open at dinner. I'm just going to wrap the + digi. She's 12 so should know what it is. That way, the 3 most important females in my life will get a Mother's Day present (niece, mom, sister)

I thought of another hokey way of announcing it to the family. Actually, I think I'll do it for my sister.
I think I'll put a single hamburger bun in the oven.
DH just rolls his eyes at me.

I'm hopefully announcing to my mom and MIL in person on Mother's Day. (Not 100% sure yet if my mom will make it up to visit or not.) I originally planned on us all going to brunch (me, hubby, MIL, FIL, SIL, mom, sister, maybe dad) and giving the moms books to open at the same time - they'd be books having to do with grandmothers/being grandmothers/whatever.
Then I thought rather than do that, we could give each of them a present to open, and once we were done with that DH could say "Oh, and I have one more..." and hand one to me.
My mom might screw it up by NOT coming to visit, in which case I think I'm going to mail her a present (book) and just have her open it while I'm on the phone.

Not to crash the DDC, but I have a Jan 07 babe, and we wanted to announce on Mother's Day too. It was the first grandbaby for both of our moms, so we planned to tell them (they live far away--so by phone) "We have something for you for Mother's Day, but it won't be ready for another 9 months."
We actually had to tell them a week early, because my grandfather got very sick and we wanted him to know before he died. But we still used the line on my MIL, and she immediately burst into tears of joy. It was fun.
Happy telling!

I'm going to crash, too, because I've had two Mother's Day announcements with DC (and because I'm 7 dpo and stalking this group).
With #1, we gave my mom a grandmother's Mother's Day card. At first she thought I put the wrong card in her envelope but then she got it. To tell the rest of my family, I wrote "We're pregnant!" on each card in a playing deck. Then said we were going to show them a card trick, gave them each a face-down card, counted to 3 and had them turn them over. To tell DH's family, we gave his mom a Mother's Day gift of a baby bib with "Happy New Year!" on it.
With #2, I made a big sister shirt for DD and had her wear it to a family Mother's Day party. It was very telling to see who really pays attention and who couldn't figure it out even when they were told to see DD. To tell DH's family, we signed a birthday card to DH's mom "Love, Elizabeth [DD] and #6" because DS is their 6th grandkid.
If the timing works out, I think I'd like to tell family next time by having everyone stand together for a group photo. Then just before the self-timer goes off, say "Say: Jessica's pregnant!" instead of "Say Cheese!". Then the camera clicks, capturing the reaction. (I saw this on YouTube--it was really cute).
Congratulations, mamas! Hoping I'll be back soon...

I bought a couple of hinged picture frames (4x6 on each side) a couple months ago, and I'm going to give them to mom and MIL with a pic of ds on one side and something along the lines of "this space reserved for baby #2 coming in January 2009" on the other side. I had hoped to use them before now, but they work perfectly as mother's day gifts!

Well, this is what I ended up doing...

My MIL didn't get it right away...eventually it got through!
I showed this picture to my SIL the day before. She got it immediately.

Those shirts are cute! We signed MIL's card from DD and Baby #2, Due January 2009. She didn't get it at first. She just leaned over and thanked DD. DH said did you read it? Yeah, love Ashleigh and Baby....DH says, read the rest! Then we get the Oh My Gosh! Are you serious?!? For REAL?!?! YAY!!
It was really funny. Then she asked if she can be there for the birth.
I think it's going to be a long 8 months....
