ALCAT Testing

I was looking at the www.alcat.com site about food intolerance testing. They were advertised in "Living Without" magazine. Does anyone know anything about them? I tried the York Test from FL and had a really bad experience (3 months and they still hadn't sent a test, an F with the Better Business Bureau, and I finally had to go through my credit card company to get my money back). But the ALCAT test seems like it would work, especially the pediatric one, and the price isn't that bad. I'm still trying to figure out if DS has corn and/or red food dye problems and I'm having a hard time with it. So can anyone tell me anything about it? THANKS.

Wow- that looks pretty comprehensive, but sorry I can't say I've heard of it before. I have heard bad things about the US York test from others too (The UK lab is supposed to be much better). That's a bummer that you had to go through that. We just did the Sage Labs ELISA for DD, which is also pretty comprehensive (not as many dyes tested as Alcat though, but it does have red #2, #3, and #40), but it is EX..PEN..SIVE!!

Oh- I forgot to mention that the Sage test (surprisingly) WAS a covered benefit on both DD's insurance policies, so we are getting a good chunk of it paid for. If you look in my Sage ELISA thread, there is a copy of a document that they sent me with CPT codes to give your insurance to see if it's covered.

We were going to do Alcat for dd when we were back in South Africa (we live in Asia), but we couldn't get enough blood drawn (we tried twice), so it seems that it wasn't meant to be. I hear about it from a friend who has a friend who finally got rid of a lot of health issues after having it done and cutting out intolerances. It seems more popular in South Africa than Elisa. We were going to do it through a clinical nutritionist, but I think there are ND's who use it as well.
I would be interested to know how it goes for you if you pursue it.

I ordered the pediatric test for DS. It was $249. I know he's got milk, soy, and cocoa intolerances. I'm pretty sure he has white potato intolerance. And I've been suspecting corn and red dye. So we'll see what it says. My DD has many more intolerances, and if DS's test comes out accurate, then I'll do it for DD, and then probably for me, since the ED has helped my IBS symptoms. I'll let everyone know how it turns out.
