I was away for 3 months when I got back I found an almond butter and jelly sandwich in a plastic zip lock in my daughters back pack in her closet. I found it because it smelled in her closet. I discarded the zip lock and removed the backpack, but it still smells in the closet. I'm assuming the mold spores have spread onto the clothing and toys. Any advice? Is this harmful mold? Can this mold thrive without food? Do I need to wash all the clothes and toys? TIA

I don't think typical food mold is the kind that concerns people so much and is attributed with causing so many health problems, but I'm no expert.

If you can smell it, there is probably some still in there and it might be best to clean it out thoroughly to prevent new mold from growing. Although if generally you don't have mold in there, it's probably not got the best conditions for it to thrive so you'll probably be okay and no need to panic. I'm not an expert but was just reading up on mold for myself on some other websites...
