if you would have asked me a chiropractic a month ago i would have told you its unnecessary and probably more a mind over matter type thing...

BOY WAS I WRONG!

I read the "does anyone else hurt" thread...i've experienced crazy excruciating crotch pain and hip pain almost ALL pregnancy!! Now, almost none. I can move my legs. I can get out of bed without being scared and tense. I can do inversions without help getting down or back up.

I read about so many of you going to chiro's and how it really worked...but i figured (and I'm sorry for underestimating you) that you were either exaggerating or your pain wasn't as bad as mine.

Now i know it probably was.

If you are having ANY pain go to a chiro. Period. End of thread.

Glad it's working for you!!! DH and I have also noticed that since all of us have been going (even before I was pg) that we're all much, much healthier. I really believe that getting adjusted has helped our immune systems. This is the first flu season none of us have been sick. We've all had a touch of a cold, but it hasn't gone further than that. It's been pretty nice.

I can't wait to take the baby for his first adjustment!

Yep, it works. It's a matter of finding a GOOD chiro. I saw a total quack once - my first chiro experience - so the issue didn't set well with me. When my midwife suggested a specific chiro to me in my last pregnancy, I thought I would give it a shot. It totally helped with the pubic bone pain I was having (that I didn't have at all the first pregnancy). It helps that my chiro is a woman who has had 9 babies! She also does acupuncture and the results of that on my morning sickness/incessant vomiting in my last pregnancy are the ONLY reason I am having another baby. Truly, it's the only reason I went through with it. I never want to be as sick as I was with my middle pregnancy. When I had acupuncture work for me, I was blown away and I've had it all throughout this pregnancy - along with regular chiropractic adjustments!

I am so glad you tried it and had success with it. You don't really have to be in that much pain! I also think having a properly aligned spine and pelvis gives our babies the right space to position well for birth.

I have to admit, I've always been afraid of the cracking/popping. Something about that just doesn't seem right. And I hear it can take several times because your bones will tend to be "in the habit" of being out of align and go right back. And the thought of cracking a baby's bones omg. I am not knocking you guys and I know I'm speaking out of total ignorance cause I've never done it, just stating my fears about it. isn't there a gentler way? :

One of my mw is a cranio-sacral something or other...and did something to my neck one visit. I was having arm numbness and carpal tunnel symptoms so bad. She just seemed to be rubbing and gently touching my neck while the other two talked to me. Later in the appt my dh asked her what she did and she said my C3 was out of alignment. He asked if she popped it back in. I said "no" cause there was no popping. She said she just allowed my body the opportunity to fix itself. *shrug* the whole thing confuses me. But, I have a good two months worth of pain free in my arms. It's just now coming back and I think it's because of massive swelling just related to end of pregnancy and quick outside temperature rises. 70's-80's in a matter of a week or two. ugh! If that's what a chiro does, then I could probably handle it, it was really nice.

My chiropracter lives in a different state (I moved) so I had to find a new one. I went to see him and he basically told me the only thing he could do to help me was to use some stupid electric thingy on my ligaments. Totally unhelpful! I'm so jealous f people who found good chiropracters.

I've had chiro work on both of my babies and it's all gentle touch stuff - absolutely no snap crackle stuff at all. I was totally skeptical but it was recommended to me by my very alternative family practitioner for my first baby when she was having digestive issues. It was amazing the turn around in her. The doctor explained to me that during the birth process they can get crunched a bit and that the chiropractic helps to work all that out. I'll have this baby adjusted too as a matter of course.

Trust me, I understand the skepticism. It's all about finding the right skilled practitioner.

you know, there isn't all that much popping...

i mean, there is definitely some popping and pressure exerted on some points...but it feels nothing like what happens when you pop your bones yourself or when they pop involuntarily.

and it does not hurt.

my chiro went over my body with me (with the help of a mirror, fully clothed) and with my description of pain, weakness and ability (like easier to turn my body right than left) he determined where i needed work. SO a normal adjustment (without webster) takes literally about 5-10 minutes). They don't pop every bone in your body or your back. A small massage as s/he moves her hands down your back to find those specific spots and then just a push. Nothing crazy. Since they know exactly where to push they don't have to use all that much pressure...and since you are relaxed and not using your own muscles to force the bone that's out of place...well its easier on you.

i would liken it to giving birth (although this is gonna be my first time...) But if you are resistant or trying TOO HARD to avoid pain or force things, the pain will be worse and progress slower. But if you can find a chiro you trust and are comfy with and can just relax while under his or her care, then i would say there doesn't have to be really any serious pain.

the one feeling i consistently get (and it's nowhere close to pain) is this crazy unearthly feeling that makes me feel like i want to cry...let me explain...

i think its because my body has been so tense in some places for so long...after he is done, my body just seems to sizzle with energy. the overload is so intense...my body feels such a great release, it seems like a release of that proportion can only be matched by an emotional outpouring like crying. maybe its because i've never experienced such tension release W/OUT crying. It's like finding out you have insert serious debilitating disease here and then finding out you're cured, or you don't really have it, it was a mistake. So i don't end up actually crying, but this energy, i really can say, it's like spiritual rapture.

as a disclaimer...this feeling gets less and less everytime i go. probably cause my tension gets less and less. it feels so good i'm actually jealous(!) of G who is going to get his first adjustment on Monday!!

I start going after my second one was about 6 months old. I had a knee that would not stop hurting and with in months of adjustments it was gone. The chiro I was going to stopped feeling 'right' after a while. With this pregnancy I have found a gal I just love! She is thourough and seems to really hit the right spots when I need them.

Once baby gets here I am so taking her. And this summer I plan on getting all the boys into see her and keep up with adjustments for them all summer. Should make it easier during the school year to take them in if it's just once a month instead of the weekly pattern. She is in another town from where we live and the boys are in school, so weekly visits are a bit much. Especially with gas right now!

As far as noises, I do get alot of noises when I go, but I'm a creaky body person anyway. The thing that got me when first adjusted was my neck. My neck is always out of whack and when they adjust it it does 'sound' bad..lol. Last time it sounded like she had a pack of spegetthi noodles and had broke then in half...lol. But once you do get used to the little soudns your body makes and HOW much better you feel after, you don't care.

I totally reccomend the chiro for people, but it's something you have to be comfortable with, just like any procedure.

I absolutely 200% love my chiropractor. She rocks. When I have missed a week I've been miserable by the following appt. After what I went through with sciatica before I could find a good one....shew. Let me just say with certainty that the pain was just as bad or worse than anything I have ever felt in my entire life. Including gallstones, kidney stones, natural childbirth, AND pitocin!

I could have written this, except insert "breech baby" in lieu of the morning sickness.

If this baby doesn't come today or tomorrow, I have to get back in the office...
