why not try family cloth?
we started a few weeks ago, and it is going far better than I imagined.
There is a family cloth thread around here somewhere, if you're interested.

I buy Marcal in the grocery store. It's 100% post-consumer recycled and whitened without chlorine. It makes me wonder how Seventh Gen can get off selling scratchy brown paper at like 5x the cost? Marcal is cheap, works well and is made from recycled paper. Be sure to read the label. It's marked in small print, unlike Seventh Gen that covers the packaging declaring its 'greenness'.

The thing about Seventh Generation that bugs me is that they go on and on about not depending on petroleum, but their stuff all comes in plastic containers or plastic wrapping. Their maxi pads come in plastic packages, the pads are wrapped in plastic and they seem to be made of plastic. I keep meaning to write to the company to see if their packaging is made of recycled content.

As for the Marcal, this is what I use. I much prefer 1-ply tissue paper. I hate "cushy" tp and I also think 1-ply uses less resources, obviously. I find it very hard to find 1-Ply recycled toliet paper. There was a coupon from a local grocery store for toliet paper by Nature Made (I think that's the name....it had "nature" in it). The advertisement said, "Why buy a 12 pack of 1-ply toliet paper when you can buy a 6 pack of 2-ply tissue and reduce the packaging?"
