Just wanted to give a link to a website that has a ton of info in support of vaginal breech birth: http://web.mac.com/breechbirth/iWeb/Site/Welcome.html

Good luck mama .

I just delivered a breech baby vaginally after having a cesarean with dd1 over 2 years ago.

My baby didn't turn breech until 41 weeks----almost unheard of---and I was already in a good labor pattern when I found out she was breech. The first thing I asked my MW when she told me baby was breech was "OMG---do I have to go to the hosptial?????" mainly because my biggest fear was having to birth in a hospital and being sectioned again. Thank goodness my MW is AWESOME and her response to my question was "only if you want to".

After that, my dh and I talked it over, weighed the risks and decided to go ahead with a Breech HBAC. It was not an easy decision but ultimately, what got me to that was my own good ol' gut instinct. I think there are many risks either way, and I will admit I was not happy about my limited choices, but felt that of them, for me and my baby---our safety, etc..., the vaginal birth was the way to go.

I will not kid you, it was a long, painful labor. Just dilating to 10cm took 17 hours because I had no help from the weight of the baby's head. Then, transition was pretty short, but the period of time between transition and delivery seemed like forever. The contractions were almost unbearable and even had me vomiting from the pain. (I think they lasted about 4.5 hours).

The delivery was also a bit scary. My baby was coming out what we thought to be foot first, but ended up being THIGH and KNEE first, , then one foot, then the second foot was caught. It took what seemed like forever to get it out, and by that time, baby's cord had flattened a bit, so my midwife and dh were yelling at me to push, and I did with all my might!!!!! Only some of the pushes had no contrax behind them, so it was hard. Eventually, my MW had to get aggressive and help the baby out (which is why I have a large tear), but we got her out and she had an apgar of maybe 5---had to stimulate her and give her O2-but within a minute of birth, her apgar was up to an 8-9.

My friend have been asking me if I would do it again, and I have said "absolutely". Either way would have been hard for me, but at least being at home, we felt more in control of how things were going to happen and more comfortable. In the hospital, I feel we would have been given very little say in my care or my baby's care. Also, the thrill of having my newborn in bed with me and knowing I was in control of her care just minutes after her birth was AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!

BTW, my baby was 8 lbs 6 oz. So, don't let anyone tell you your baby is too big!

I am so sorry you have limited choices in the birth of your LO. We tried chiropratic and homeopathic to get her to turn, but to no avail---however, I was already in labor and I was 41 weeks....so hopefully you may have time to get this baby turned and not have to make this decision!

Good Luck!

i've had c/s. they suck.

vaginal breech and breech c/s have similar risks to the baby. more risks to you with a c/s. ..

i personally would find a HANDS OFF person who does breech.

Breech is best done with as little intervention as possible.

I know I have a link somewhere of a mom who delivered a breech . . .and the midwife NEVER touched her or baby til after baby delivered. . .let me look for it:

Also, here is a link to a mw's blog that shows absolutely incredible pictures of a footling breech birth. It's hard to tell in that first picture, but that's a FOOT you're looking at in the mirror!
