Wichita area - Page 3

Hi Everyone,

I'm surprised and happy that there is a AP group here in Wichita! I would have really loved it 14 years ago when I had my first son. My newest addition is my 5 month DD. Does anyone know if the AP group is still active? And how do I join? I have several pregnant friends who woul likely want to be involved as well.

I've been looking for a babysitter or daycare provider on a part time/on call basis. I am an nurse and I am switching my job from full time to on call so I can make my own schedule and be home with my kids more. If any one knows anyone who is pro AP that does daycare on an as needed basis let me know!

Thanks!

Hi! i don't know how often this board is checked but i'm in Newton but i'm in wichita all the time. TMI but i finally got my period back after 3 years off it. I stopped my depo shots in december and my OB said it could take up to 18 months to ovulate again. so I'm excited to at least have my period back. Maybe we'll be able to conceive sooner than hoped.

anyway, i'd love to work with a midwife this time. I had an ok birth experience the first time but i felt that i was pressured to have the epidural and be induced among other things.

I'm in Newton now, but we are hoping to sell our house soon and move to wichita. Can anyone recommed a good place to start?

I worked with a midwife here in Wichita for my babies birth in November. She works at a Dr. office and she was great. It depends on if you are wanting a home birth or not. My midwife delivers at the Wesley Birth Care Center or Via Christi Hospital. This was my third child and I had an awesome birth experience. There is also another midwife here in Wichita who delivers at homes or a birth center that is like a hhttp://www.yahoo.com/ome environment. (I can't remember the name of the place right now, but I have a friend I can ask) There are several midwives in the area who do home births. Hope that helps!

local mommy wants playmates (for her daughter too ;))

I am Sarah, a 25 year old single, vegetarian and AP mommy to a wonderful 13 month old daughter named Illusia.

I am desperately looking for AP mommies in the Wichita area!!! I moved here 2 years ago and know no-one (except my daughter's father and now ex) and am friendless and terribly lonely. Can I ask for the link to the AP group here? (if one still exists.) and if anyone is interested in ever getting together for a playgroup or etc I would be very interested!!!

Also, I was going to Lawrence and having my daughter see an ND but now she is closing her business. I really want to switch over to a local, regular pedi that I can take my daughter to without driving 3 hours to see, I would prefer a female.

Does anyone know if the Dr. Harrington or Dr. Mroz take health wave? If not, does anyone know of any other vax-friendly female pedis in the Wichita area that might?

My daughter is so far not vax'd at all. I am looking into alternative vax and delayed vax though. I am still awfully afraid this will be an issue if I take her to a regular doctor and I really do not want a confrontation or anything.

Our first, very brief, regular pedi was horrible in the hospital. She all but yelled at me for letting my newborn fall asleep nursing in the hospital. saying she would get SIDS if I continued doing it. She made us talk to 3 caseworkers about why we did not want the vitamin k shot and just totally harassed us the whole time we were there.

Do not want to go through that again. I am hopefully that one of the female doctors listed will work out for us and plan on calling Monday to set up an appt. as my girl missed her 12 month check up due to her ND quitting her practice.

Hi Sarah,

I just PM on how to search for the group. I'm Ruthann, mom to 2 boys 14, 7, and a 6 month old baby girl. I just joined the AP group, and I'm not sure how often they have meet ups. I think it's once a month.

I have heard good things about Dr. Harrington but not sure about the healthwave. You could try looking into a family practice doc if you don't find a ped you like. We have a great family practice doc so that can be a good alternative.

Another good place to meet people is La Leche League meetings, if you are still nursing. I go to the ones on the East side. There are some out west. It just depends on where you live or how far you want to drive.

Talk to you later!

Hi Sarah,
I am the sort of moderator for the AP yahoo group. I just accepted you, but I may have then accidentally deleted you. If so, please join again and I will approve you.

Also, we see Dr. Mroz and love her. I am pretty sure she takes health wave, but is difficult to get in to see. I have heard good things about Dr. Harrington and also about the PA's at Dr. Ferris's office...I know they take Health Wave.
Don't let anyone bully you. It is your choice not to vax or to delay vaxing. I think all of these docs would agree with that, even if they disagree with the actually not vax'ing.

Hi, thanks for the list but none of those doctors accept my insurance. Have any ideas if there are more in the area?

Hey Wichita Mommies,

Are any of you YMCA members? I was at the Y today out North and was asked to go to a locker room to breasfeed while nursing my dd at the pool. (see my post under lactivism) Just wondering if anyone else has encountered a situation like that at any of the local Y's.

Wow, I am so sorry that happened to you! I was thinking about joining a baby swim class but now I am not so sure... I have never been to a Y in the area so I cannot be of much help but I feel really bad for you in your situation!

If you return to the Y and are bothered about it again, I would remind them it is ILLEGAL to make you leave the pool!

Thanks for posting this statute. I didn't know that the law had changed. Wonderful news.
