talk to me about your rags and cleaning cloths.

i am finding that i am much more "mindful" and "intentional" about my homekeeping when i have beautiful things to use. i've been really focusing on this lately, and i've been so much more peaceful, i really want to take it to the next level, so to speak... and i'm finding the thing that's speaking to me the most is my cloths, towels, and rags (esp for the kitchen, but also for dusting, washing windows, etc...)

so... where do you get yours... assuming you have ones you love?

Every once in a while, I buy new microfiber cloths. They have a lot of different colors now. I usually find some in the automotive section. I have some orange and blue ones.

Sometimes Target has cute washcloths on clearance for a big pack of thick ones. Those are pretty nice too. I have some turquoise ones that I love.

Microfiber cleaning cloths are on sale in the automotive section of my Target. After I bought my first dozen I realized I loved cleaning up with them, and I loved having enough that I could toss them in the wash as soon as they were a bit soiled! So I bought another dozen.

I also like to cut up old flannel pajamas and cotton t-shirts for rags, but unfortunately these don't have the scrubby power that I've grown to love in the microfiber.

I use a feather duster to dust with. I like it better than microfiber. I feel like a french maid running around with it every so often, you have to wash it, but it is reusable and really works. When I wax the furniture (like once or twice a year, with paste wax) I use old T-shirts.

for spills and messy stuff, I have a bunch of cheapie wash clothes. they are too scratchy to use in the bath. I also have bar mop towels, they're very absorbent - the more you wash them, the softer they get.

Since I've discovered microfibre I won't buy anything else. They feel nice to use, absorb up all excess water when you're wiping and remove scum easily without too much work. Washes up well too.

I'm a fan of the microfiber and the big pack of washcloths, too. I also really like my handknit cotton dishwashing cloths. They are too pretty to be called "rags" but they are very durable. My MIL made them for me.

The feel of microfiber gives me the creeps

I crocheted some washcloth sized squares with different decorative stitches and have been using them in the place of dust rags, sponges, dishclothes, the eraser for ds's chalkboard, etc. I love using them.

I would love to have some rags and cloths that were beautiful. That's a nice idea. Right now I'm using old cloth diapers, because they're what I have, and I'm broke, and they work fine, but sometimes I get icked and think wow, my kids used to poop on these. I know in my head they're clean, but still.

I do have a few Indian cotton tea towels that I use in the kitchen, and they're lovely. I got them in a specialty shop near here years ago.

I can't do microfiber. I hate the way it feels on my hands.

we have a mishmosh of cloth, from old PFs to microfiber squares, linen and cotton rags, and DH's tub of blue shop towels.

I am another for both knitted dishcloths and microfiber. I also cut up flannel or old clothes to make napkins and unpaper towels. They work great.

I mostly use my dh's old undershirts or towels that have been retired.

My sister found some amazing wash clothes at an Amish store. They were just so stunning. She has one color for the kitchen and another for cleaning. I can't even really discribe them....just pure cotton and fluffy and thick. I was drooling.
