OT - We are home!

We left early Tuesday for Kansas to find a place to live. We got there late Wednesday and found a place in Lawrence on Friday. There are renters still in there and we didn't think we would be able to see the inside (property manager has to give them 24 hours notice). But they were nice enough to let us in early afternoon. We love it! So we applied for it and should know if we get it on Tuesday.

We left after we turned in our application and made it to Hays, KS and spent the night. Then left yesterday morning and got home just before midnight last night. We drove 1038 miles yesterday. I am sore, exhausted, nauseas and have a headache. I honestly didn't think I was going to make it yesterday. But baby seems happier today now that she can stretch out.

As far as the move goes, we are going to have to do ABF freight. The firm is giving us $4k in relocation but the bids came in at $8k. The United Rep was really nice. He is the one that suggested ABF and we can use their movers. Its like $45 an hour for 2 and then another rate if we use 4. They also have used boxes half off. I tried Craigslist and I am having no luck finding boxes in my area.

So the plan is I have the baby on the 12th. Get out sometime late that week. Have ABF deliver a trailer and load on either Monday or Tuesday of the next week. Then we will leave out on Wednesday. Hubby will drive since I won't be released to drive yet and I will be taking care of the baby and the kids. I have no idea how long it will take us to get there with me being uncomfortable from the CS and nursing the baby. Should be pretty interesting. Oh and hubby starts work on May 27th.

In the meantime I got get ready for the baby and get some last minute things for the hospital. On top of an OB pre-op appointment, hospital registration appointment, kids dentist appoinement, myself the kids need haircuts, packing and cleaning. I am so exhausted as it is and thinking of everything the needs to be done is overwhelming.

Today I am trying to veg and get my thoughts straight. I hope.

On Anne...good news! hang in there. Wish we all could come help!

Check out liquor stores for boxes...best place to get them!

Congrats and good luck momma!

Ditto on the liquor store for boxes...also your local grocery store or walmart as well...call and ask them stocking time or what are the best times to get boxes and they will tell you...normally it is around the crack of dawn before they compact them...I have never paid for boxes...certainly would not pay for used ones...if I am payng it will be for rubbermaid containers that can be kept...also contractor garbage bags from home depot are good for some items as well...

Best of luck with everything!!!

Glad to hear you're back home; all that driving does not sound fun. I hope you get the place!

Oh, and something I was thinking of: You can often count moving expenses as a tax deduction if they're for relocation for a job. Have you looked into that at all? Obviously won't help you right now, but might offer some peace of mind...

The problem is with my husband being out of work since Feb 1st, we don't have any extra $$. We are keeping receipts for taxes.

This is our 7th move since the mid 90's. All but one have been for job reasons. So we are unfortunately experienced in this arena.

We want to be careful with food boxes because of bugs. But I think liquor store and non food boxes from Walmart or Target will work too.

call the hospital. they have boxes for free that are SO much sturdier than other boxes, often have handles and are bug-free.

H.O.L.Y. Smokes mama! I do not envy you. It sounds like it's a good move for you guys and you are happy about it. So congrats!!!

There's no way you could make me move right now. No, really, I don't think you could even pay me to move right now. I don't think I can even move off my couch right now...even if I could...I am so just not moving!

Must be nap time...

Oh come on! You are game for it right? With two toddlers too and a Siamese to take care of?

Well my IL's have decided to stay till May 20th (flying in next Sunday). I have no clue how we will get them to the airport which is 150 miles away. But oh well. They already made flight arrangements.

All summer will be crazy. With the new baby, the move and my daughter needs a VCUG, Urodynamics test, MRI and we will have to see all of her specialists (7 of them) for the first time. Sigh

You made me want to take a nap just reading your post! You are amazing!!!

I worked for a nursing home for a couple of weeks last year doing stocking. They had soooooo many boxes (for Depends type things) that would be ideal for moving. We just recycled them, unless someone requested them.

As someone who just moved last weekend I feel for you!! We only went across town!

Please be gentle with yourself after your C. What I read is something that looks like you doing waaaay too much right after, even if it is just sitting in a car.

Also try Freecycle for boxes. We put ours there after we moved, not Craigslist.
