One word: Alpaca

So I was looking online and found a bunch of really nice alpaca yarn. That qualifies as wool doesn't it? Alpaca is sooo soft. I'd love to use it for diaper covers. Does anyone know how it rates in performance?

I don't know about 100%, but Ilove using 50/50 wool/alpaca blends for covers. Less pilling than all wool.

Not sure about performance, but it's warmer than wool - so it might be best for a winter soaker.

i do love alpaca though!

I'd go for a 50/50 blend like the pp suggested... I've worked with 100% alpaca and A- it has a lot of halo to it, so frogging was VERY difficult, I actually broke the strand once, and B- it's fairly expensive. I've also heard that it felts fairly easily. The pp is right that it is quite toasty, I made a loosely stitched shawl for my grandma out of it and it keeps her nice and toasty year-round.

Well, then i guess it's great that I live in a very very mild climate. It only gets warm here from May to August. By October it's winter again. (not the snowy type of winter... more like the rainy or cloudy and cold and annoying and depressing kind of winter.)

Hot isn't a word that can be used in this climate. lol.

I killed a perfectly good beaded alpaca cardigan (in sportweight, too. HOURS of work) by felting it. I wasn't happy
