May TTC w/ Maca - Page 2

Jenn, a lot may depend on taste... 1 tbls does mix better... so maybe do one in the morning and one at night if it's too strong.

Anyway, I read in the first thread that people with herpes shouldn't take maca because the l-arginine might cause a flare-up? Here's the thing, DH gets the sores on his lips. I already have DH on L-arginine because I'd read in "Getting Pregnant Naturally" that it was good for sperm production, and he hasn't had any flare-ups from that. Do you think giving him a couple capsules a day would cause a flare-up? Also, I would assume if the maca already contains L-arginine that if I put him on maca, i could take him off the l-arginine capsules?

Thanks!!
I have that herpes simplex I (oral) and I didn't have any problems with the maca until I read that thing on the other thread...and then I only got one teeny tiny little sore in the corner of my mouth once. I think it was the power of suggestion. If your dh is doing fine with the L-arginine I wouldn't worry about him taking the maca. I would probably take him off the L-arginine if you were putting him on maca. Good luck!

Thanks! That's what i was thinking.
Course, if I'm lucky this 2ww will result in a bfp and I can sell all this stuff. Oh, actually, if I start maca and get pg, should I stay on it through the first trimester or does it matter?

I don't think it really matters, Mama Rana... but I will say for me and A Mothers Love the Maca seems to be helping with morning sickness. I have read that about it too... so I'm keeping on it for now.

Hi all, I've been missing in action for a few days - just needed to regroup a little. Doctorsd appointment is Monday and I'm trying not to think about it, although I've been talking to the strangest people (not strange just people I wouldn't normally talk about TTC with!) to try to get a name for an OB at the hospital I will be refered to who is empathetic and good! Will be pushing very hard to get a different one.

Anyway, we're on a bit of a maca rollercoaster at the mo! some of you may remember that DH and I both had an awful bug a couple of weeks back. Well, we now think it was our new batch of maca! We both started on the new bag and got the bug, so we were off it for a 5 or 6 days as it seemed to be irritating the 'bug'. well I took my 2 tbsp yesterday for the first having been fully recovered and bam! horrendous (and I mean hooorrrrrrennnnndddoussss!) cramps, vomitting and diarrhoea within 90 mins of taking it. Needless to say couldn't talk DH into taking his when he got home. Spoke to the company today who say they haven't had any other reports but will replace it with a different batch number. : it'll be here tomorrow and we can start again!

How's everyone else doing? Is there anyone just waiting in the wings to be our next BFP?

JSMa - congratulations! Not convinced that I actually said it to you yet! H&H9! Here's hoping we all follow you soon.

Hi there pregnant lady!
Can you see the big green eyes from there?

I really don't want to get the people a bad name as I truly think they just got a dodgy batch, but it was a UK company that I had mentioned before. Plantspirit I think is their name.

How are you doing? Is it true that the maca is helping with morning sickness as well?

I got it!! MACA arrived. I'm trying it as I'm typing and its not bad!! I mixed it in Dole Pineapple Banana Orange juice. DH is scared to try tonite so I'm not going to push it on him. I also bought some Bolthouse Farms Mocha Cappucino protein drink to try it in tomorrow. I read that chocolately things help the taste too. I'll let you all know how that goes. So far so good here. Still got the EWCM so I have to say that my B-complex vitamin has helped alot in that dept! I'm anticipating ovulation was today or will be tomorrow. Here's to MACA!!!!

LibraryMo - Thanks for the new thread and your chart looks really promising!

I'm in the 2ww 8dpo but my chart doesn't look all that exciting - my luteal phase is normally 12 days but I started taking a b vit complex this month so I'm not sure if that will lengthen it...

I noticed a lot more ewcm this month - do you think it's the maca, b vit or switching to decaf? Anybody else notice this?

Who's testing next?

Hi Julie! I noticed more EWCM this month too and I started taking the B-complex vitamin.

I think It does help w/ morning sickness. I didn't have any Maca on Wednesday cause I had a fasting blood draw. & now I just havn't had any cause I feel kinda ick. So....I need some I suppose. I bet I will feel better. I'm just kinda at a point where I want nothing (eat or drink) now I an curious. If I go have some.....maybe I will feel better.

Ok I tried the Maca in my Mocha Cappucino protein drink and it was harder to get down this morning. I ended up pouring it out. I think I just need to stand there and down it. Will it get better the more I drink it?? Also the powder clumps when it gets in the liquid and I have to stir and smash it forever before its all mixed in. Anyone got any tips there?? I'm about to go try some more :

How's everyone doing today?

I posted this before, but in case it can help someone new.... if you're having trouble getting down a maca drink, breathe through your mouth. Take a sip, breathe through the mouth, take another sip, etc. You won't taste a thing!

I'm 5DPO today and still taking the maca every day, tho now I'm down to 3 capsules after I got a little freaked out about my O date moving back a whole week. I'm hoping it's just doing what it needs to do on my hormones, but I wasn't expecting such a dramatic change.

Who's testing next?

Hi, AF showed yesterday so I'm out.
The next 6-8 weeks will be crazy for me; quitting job, family wedding to attend back in NY, selling house (hopefully), moving to Virginia, trying to find a new job and finally in early July a vacation to Alaska. I'm toying with the idea of not temping until mid-July and we're back on a regular schedule because to be honest I don't think we're going to conceive while we're both so stressed. It's amazing to me that this is turning out to be difficult. I really believed that the first time we had unprotected sex I'd be pregnant. I guess my mom was wrong.
I will certainly keep checking in, though and I wish you all lots of baby dust.

Hi Everyone,
I've been reading this thread and last night on impulse I stopped at Elephant Pharmacy and picked up some organic Maca powder. I mixed one tablespoon each in a 2 glasses of Odwalla Mango Tango (used a hand mixer) and my DH and I had our first Maca shake. I honestly didn't think it tasted bad just a slight aftertaste. DH though made a face and said it was disgusting so....I dunno maybe it just tastes different to some people. I've always been convinced my husband has that "Super Taster" gene because he thinks broccoli and coffee taste bitter where I LUV both coffee and broccoli.
Anyway, hoping it helps so I'm going to keep trying it although I might end up going out and getting the pills for DH if I can't find a shake recipe he can tolerate better. I'm going to try some of the ones posted here.

Anyway, can I join? I'm planning on 2 TBS/day for DH and I...is that the right amount?

You definitely need to use a blender or hand mixer. I tried just mixing with a spoon and it was horrible.

I have found mixing it with fruit including a bananna and some cinnamon to be the best way to mix it for us. Our basic recipe for 2 is 1 to 1.5cps soy milk, frozen cherries, frozen strawberries, a frozen bananna, 2 tbs flax oil, agave and cinnamon to taste. Smetimes I add almond extract. Adding the bananna and cinnamon did the trick. I am looking for a recipe with fewer calories but so far this tastes the best. I think I'll try one of the juices.
