PP mamas: how low is YOUR cervix?

SO! by now, nothing should be beyond our topics of discussion, right?

Well, last night DH and I DTD-without any sort of BC (5 weeks pp) -a rather rash choice, I know. This morning I have lots of egg white cm. I had lots with my lochia, but haven't seen any for awhile now. When I felt my cervix, it's soft and incredibly low. SO soft and so low I had a hard time recongnizing it for what it was, at first. I swear, it's only about a thumb's length inside me!

I know- the chances of ovulating are extremely low at this point... but we do use a paci, so it's not like I'm exclusively nursing. I guess I'll just be paraniod for a bit. But I was surprised at the lowness of my cervix-I assume this is because of birth. I'd never thought to feel it any earlier-anyone else have any experience with this?

Should I tell my MW before I have my IUD inserted next week?

I'm still bleeding off and on mainly when I overdo things. My cervix is worrying me as it's never been this low before following pg and I did check at this point with my other kids. It's barely inside it's so low. I'm guessing that's not a good thing, but I don't want to have any blood pressure checks so I haven't called my mw's office to see her about it sooner then my check up on the 21st.

well I'm nearly 2 wks PP and my cervix is also very low. About a thumb, like you said. Worries me too, I'm just doing the hell out of some kegels. I wouldn't worry about the paci too much. ds had one and i still didn't see AF until after one year.

mine's super low too and hasn't budged with kegels or d'ingtd.

haven't asked my mw about it yet because it didn't alarm me

UUUUmmmmm I haven't checked, I am so scared to even look down there, I think the pain after the birth kind of scarred me.....

Ok, I checked just for you, Alpaca. It's very low, lower than I've ever felt in my years of charting, probably a thumb's length like you said. Also soft, medium opening, with creamy CM.

Keep in mind that leftover semen the next day can resemble EWCM. However, it breaks apart easier than EWCM and sorta dissolves when you rub it between your fingers.

mine feels like there are little bumps on it... idk, it scares me to think about it

if it feels like grains of sand they're probably nabothian cysts - totally normal, they come and go. You just may not have noticed them before

Alpaca - Just think, your kids could be 10-11 months apart!

DO NOT say THAT! :

I've had the exact same EWCM and it did kinda freak me out for a moment. I don't want to ovulate yet I had a c-section and so I'm planning on at *least* 2 years before another baby (supposed to be a MINIMUM 2 years before I even TTC according to the OB I saw for follow up ). I am nursing probably 12+ times a day, no pacis and I'm fairly certain that its related to lochia NOT fertility. It definitely did look like EWCM though.

About the cervix height, mine seems to be about the same as everyone is describing. I guess we must all be normal or abnormal together

OMG okok, that's IT there is absolutely NOTHING off-limits now! Jennisee has totally hit the roof on tmi! we may as well all be sisters now after having all had babies together.

If you think that's bad, you should check out the various Fertility forums here.

I don't know why your particular post hit me that hard, cause normally TMI type stuff doesn't bother me. I guess it was the fact that she mentioned it, so you went and checked, and gave us all the details while you were at it. just funny, that's all...
I've gone one up on you:
My cervix has moved up a little, but I realized my whole vagina is shorter. when I first felt my cervix PP it was mushy and open, and I was a little paranoid about reaching past it, or messing with it that much. I re-checked in the tub yesterday and it's gotten much firmer than it was. Wow, it's been so many months since my cervix has been firm enough to be recognizable, I almost didn't recognize it! ANyway, like I said, it's a bit higher than it was, but there isn't anymore "up" for it to go.

I'm wondering if the post-partum cervix is low, soft, and open while lochia is being passed, and then when the lochia is done, the cervix firms up and closes. (Which would totally make sense since that's what happens with AF.) Since most of us are just finishing up bleeding, that could explain why we all suddenly have cervixes closing up. And the last little bit of lochia DOES sort of resemble EWCM because it has so little blood in it...

Well that's not happening with me, I'm still bleeding a lot, but last time I checked it was more firm. I haven't had clear mucous yet.
