Toothy latch

All of a sudden DS's latch is more toothy (he has had these 4 teeth for a couple months, it is possible he is teething again) but what ever it is, his new way of latching is a bit painful. I don't know why he has to mess with a good thing!

Any suggestions on how to encourage a proper latch at this age (9 mo)?

TIA!

I'm bumping this post because I'm having the same problem with my daughter's first tooth. It has just emerged and it is so sharp!!! I'm trying to pull her chin down a little and experimenting with different positions, but I'm worried about all of the teeth that will be coming in over the next 1.5 years. Does your nipple just become more calloused or does the baby's latch change eventually?

My 7 month old just started latching on differently in the last three days meaning she is chewing on my nipple and it feels like razors (aka two bottom teeth)and I suspect she is teething again. I have also wondered what it is going to be like when she gets more teeth esp. her top teeth. Once I started giving her tylenol and a cold teething ring it has seemed to have been better in the last 24 hours.

I wrote the original post last week, and my son had been toothy about his latch for at least a few days. It only lasted a few more (he has 2 top and bottom teeth). I think it must have been a teething pain thing. I keep thinking he is going to get 2 more teeth anyday, btu they have been taking quite sometime and have been hurting him off an on. Now his latch is back to normal with no assitance for me. When he got super painful I would delatch him, pause, and then latch him again, and sometimes the problem corrected itself.

Good Luck! It will pass!
