Just got back from the teach!

It looks like I'll start Lupron on 6/16 and then start stimming on 7/5 with retrieval and transfer around the week of 7/14. My medications have been ordered and will be delivered on Friday the 13th, ha ha. Let the roller coaster begin.

My dh was pretty shocked by the amount of shots I'll have to be taking. He apparently didn't have any idea. Oops. However, we also realized that he will be gone some days during the 2ww and as such will be unable to give me the pio shots. Has anyone given them to themself? Is that even possible? We weren't planning on telling anyone irl, but that might have to change if I can't do them myself.

Other questions, for those who have btdt. How bad is it, as far as needing time off from work? According to my dr I only need to take off the day of retrieval. I could even return to work after the transer, if I wanted. Is that crazy?

Hey Julia'sMom - looks like we'll be Lupron twins I start mine on the 16th as well, although I start my stims on the 28th I think.

As for the PIO shots - I have given them to myself and it worked just fine. I stand in front of the mirror sideways with the cheek that's going to be injected facing the mirror. Since the shot goes into the side of the cheek more than the back of it, it's not that hard to do (at least it wasn't for me). Just pull the skin/fat back with the opposite hand and stick the needle in with the other. You can pull the plunger up a little bit with your thumb to check for blood and then you're good to go. I have to say with the probably 200+ PIO shots I've had we've never once had blood in the plunger when we checked. I'd practice it on your own before you really need to, to make sure you can do it with your arm length, etc. Hope that helps.

Lisa - Yeah for a buddy! Thank you so much for the PIO info. I do think I'll be able to do it, which is a big relief. And wow...200+ shots is a lot. I hope these are the last ones you'll need.

Yeah, dh and I joke that my *ss is officially swiss cheese 2 years of PIO shots with the occasional month of here or there for testing and bad attitude. Here's hoping there's an end in sight soon!

Oh, one other thing, I found that looking in the mirror when I did the shot was actually easier than looking down to do the shot. I could almost pretend I was doing it to someone else

Don't do it. I've just come off not one but two cycles where I figured I had manageable stress. One over Christmas with the in-laws, and one "squeezed in" (what the hell was I thinking??) before work got too stressful. You know the results *sigh*

If there's a next one, I'm taking an LOA and doing nothing but taking DD to daycare and puttering around the house. Maybe do some tidying and organizing. I know some women get pregnant during wars etc, but let's face it - we're not "some women" are we.

If you can put off the course work do. That's my advice. Wish I'd taken it myself. Who knows whether it would have made a difference, but I regret chancing it.

Thanks for your input, you're so right. It was actually imagining what advice I would give one of you guys that got me second guessing myself in the first place. I've dropped the course AND I'm not telling work. I'll just take the time off work with no explanation at all.

I agree. Take as much time as you possibly can. Don't pretend this is "nothing". Been there, done that. The only cycle that was successful was the one where I took time off work.

You *could* work before and the day after retrieval. But if you're anything like me, you're going to be sore, and bloated, and exhausted, and your mind is NOT going to be on work.

Sounds great to me I only work 3 days a week so I should have some time off anyway, but a few extra days won't hurt. I'll see how I feel around ER to determine if I need time off then as well. Since we are going to this effort, it does make sense to do everything I can to help it be successful.

I was sore and felt bloated the day after ER, I am glad my RE told me to take the next day off because there is no way that I would have wanted to work.

So, I've been spotting since Saturday, and last night and today it was bright red on the TP only, and not every time I've gone to the bathroom. Seriously? I never thought I would want her to come so badly, but I just want to get round 3 going already! I'm trying to have patience. I'm trying to make sure that I'm going to go into this with the right attitude... power of positive thinking yk?! HOWEVER, this is getting old!!!!

Ugh. Sorry, just needed to vent about it.

I know what you mean, hello AF!! Not only do I want to get rolling with my bcp's and start this cycle, but I am soooooo freaking b#$%tchy. My poor dh. I can only think that here alone in my office, when I'm in the same room as him I think "you're stupid, you're in my way, can't you help with dd more???". PMS do you think???

I hear you - mine finally showed up, taking her own sweet time with it. Should've started Friday at the latest, but instead she arrived Monday. Took my very first bcp ever today - it still makes me chuckle to think I'm taking the pill in order to get pregnant.

You'll probably have better luck finding people if you post this as separate thread on the infertility board. I know there are other women who are dealing with secondary IF, so you are by no means alone. You can also do a search under "secondary infertility".

DBURD--secondary IF here...sorta....I have one 15 yo ds from a previous marraige, now remarried and we are dealing w/ severe MFI. We have one dd from IVF #1, but IVF#2 failed, so here we are on cycle #3.

I am 37, (38 next month...tick tick tick) and dh is 41.

How about you? How old are your kids? Are you cycling this month as well???

came with a vengeance for me today ~ I guess you get what you ask for, right?! WOW! So, I called the RE this morning (yes, as soon as AF came!) for the onset. I just called back a few mins ago because I hadn't heard from them, and the office closes at 4:00.... the nurse hadn't had a chance to talk to the doc yet to get the call on how long he wants me to take the BCP's or when to start them..... grrrrrr!!!

It's funny, because I have been dealing with this specific nurse a lot, she was there when rounds 1 and 2 got canceled, she was the one that called with my new protocol... she did a lot of my u/s... you get the point... so I'm surprised that she didn't call. Oh well, I guess so long as she calls tomorrow, and I still start this cycle, then I don't care. I'm just used to them starting me on BCP's on day 1 of my cycle (unless day 1 came at night and I couldn't call until the next day). So, what's day 2 then - no biggie really... just me being me because AF is here (hello grumpy! but I promised I wouldn't complain if she would just come!!), and because I'm ready to get this party started.... again.....

Lisag - I've always gotten a good laugh out of that too ~ each cycle it never ceases to amuse me when I'm taking the meds that they start you off with them

It is hard to say if any symptoms that I am having are pregnancy symptoms or if they are just the side effects of all of the meds. My breast are really sore all the time. AF is not due for me for a few more days, PMS starts waaaaaay early in my cycle. Yay. Not.

So around the 11th I'll start taking BCP's. So I can get pregnant. Yeah, that is pretty weird. Crazy crazy hormone time!

I am going through IVF in July. I just wanted to wish you all good luck and I hope you get your BFP's! I start BCP with my next AF and then I have the sono and mock transfer. Scary but exciting!
