One of my lactivism priorities is to teach my kids about breastfeeding, what breasts are for, cows milk vs human milk, etc.

My son, Liam (2 1/2 yrs old), still nurses about 3-4 times a day and is showing no sign of slowing down.

There was some reference to "milk coming from a cow" in TV show or something, so I asked Liam something like "Cow's milk comes from a cow. Where does mama's milk come from?" He replied "A cup".

Surprised, I said "mama's milk comes from a cup? what about the milk in here?" and pointed to my breast.

He replied, "No, that's *Liam's* milk!"

I was so pleased!

I have one from today too!

DD was asking about the ducks in our back yard and when the eggs would hatch. She then said that the baby ducks would nurse on their mommy. I told her that ducks dont nurse their babies, and only mammals nurse their babies.

To that she stated "mommy you are MY mammal"

Ohh...how cute!!

We have never really had any 'teaching' about breastfeeding at our house, as my children hear it all the time in my conversations with doula clients or moms who call for breastfeeding help...we do have bottles for the baby dolls, although my children have always preferred to nurse them...but we do not shield them from that aspect...

Well, sitting at dance class, in a room full of people, a mom brings her baby in in a carseat and begins to feed her with a bottle (while she was still in the carseat). My very outspoken 3 year old was impressed that the baby was so cute, and walked closer to see her well. She very sweetly announced to me (from across the room) "Mommy, look!!! She's drinking from a bottle! I thought plastic bottles were for plastic babies!"...Thankfully everyone there thought it was funny She made me very proud...

These are too cute! I was going to post what my daughter (3) said last night to my mom.

I bottle-feed Jacob, but I do skin-to-skin while bottle feeding him and hold him at my breast. And I don't keep it a secret here at home. The kids know that mom's shirt is going half-off when Jacob is hungry.

Anyhow, we were at my older son's baseball game last night and my mom was feeding Jacob, and she was holding him the "right" position, but of course she doesn't to skin-to-skin.

So my 3 year old walks up to her and says, "Mana, you can't feed Jacob." My mom asks why and she says, "you don't have mommy's NiNis."
