How much do you dilute ACV for your hair?

I've had no luck finding a good natural/organic shampoo and conditioner that works for my hair and am tired of throwing my money away (even at Frontier prices). I've decided to give BS and ACV a try. I had a good trial run today with just the BS - I had some already in the shower, mixed with water (about 1:2 ratio of BS to water) in a squeeze bottle. I shook well and then squirted a generous amount on. Since I had no ACV and was worried about residue, I rinsed reallllllly thoroughly and then followed with a tiny amount of organic conditioner. My hair feels and looks great today!

That said, the conditioner is not natural enough for me, it smells kind of icky, AND it's expensive, so I'd really like to make the ACV work. I picked some up today, and now am simply trying to figure out how much to dilute it. If it makes a difference, I have VERY fine, super straight hair, but quite a bit of it.

Thanks!

I put about an ounce in a 4 c jar of water. This works pretty well for my hair.

I use reg. white vinegar. I mix about 1/2 c. vinegar to 2 cups water every couple of days. I have long and fine straight brown hair. It surely does the trick for me. I see no real advantage to using ACV over reg. vinegar, personally.

I've been using 2 oz. ACV and 8 oz. water- so far it has been working well.. My hair is fine but there's a lot, and it's kind of wavy/frizzy.. I also get a greasy scalp w/ dry ends.

I have a plastic pint glass in the shower. I fill it with cold water, and then add about a capful of ACV. Not very scientific, but it does work. I do this two or three times to get it all through my hair.

We use shampoo bars and then do an ACV "rinse". I put that in quotations, because we don't rinse it out. We put about a tablespoon in about 6-8 ounces of water, pour it over our hair, rub it in and then finish our bath/shower and leave the ACV in and let it dry. The ACV smell goes away when your hair dries, so that's no worry!

I fill a spray bottle with 1/3 ACV and 2/3 water. I spray on and rinse off. When I don't rinse it tends to feel greasy quickly.

New here and jumping right in. I just started the no 'poo thing about 2 months ago. I've been using 1 tsp BS and filling the cup up the rest of the way with water. Same for the ACV. For further reading/reference...see http://community.livejournal.com/no_poo

Never heard of BS. Is it baking soda? Does it work well?

We have a cup that holds a little over a pint. When I use vinegar for a rinse, I put maybe 1/4-1/3 cup (I don't measure, so I'm not sure) then fill the rest of the cup up with water. Rub it in and around, then rinse out. Much stronger than that is too harsh for me. We use ACV internally, but the regular clear stuff for rinsing, laundry, etc. It works fine and is cheaper.

Yep, baking soda or sodium bicarbonate (sp?)

It seems to work well for my hair. My hair used to be pretty oily and can turn into a grease pit if I don't wash it every 3rd day or less. The BS helps soak up the oils. I think you are supposed to brush your hair a lot with a natural bristle brush but I don't stay on top of it. Mine mainly stays up in a bun or ponytail and then I realize after day 3 of no shower that it's incredibly grody! Anyway, I've slapped a handful of straight baking soda on my scalp and that worked pretty well for me too.

Thanks. From your post and another, I take it that you can just put it on your hair or dilute it in water?

im starting no poo this week. i have really short spiky hair and use a bit of styling products wax, gel etc are there any more natural versions of those?

i have some ACV and will be picking up some BS today.

another question i do have, what would be suitible to use on childrens hair, DD1 has long, fine hair, DS1 has short hair, DS2 has long thick, curly/ringlet hair. any one know anything i can use to keep his hair for getting all matted and knotted.
DH is not into this and i told him thats fine but its his responsibilitiy to keep himself stocked in his own bath products.

what other bath products can be made at home that are fun and safe for kids?

thanks
Kiz

I keep a mug in the shower and my bottles of BS powder and a bottle of straight ACV.

I use about a tablespoon of BS (I don't measure, just give the bottle a shake)and add 1/2 cup of shower water, mix and pour over, rub in and rinse.

Then I use a good squirt (about 1 tablespoon) of ACV in the mug, half fill with water and pour over and rinse.

I have fine hair which reaches my shoulders.

I have used this on my kids hair no problems. DS prefers it because it's fast, no bubbles in eyes and just a quick rinse instead of repeated rinsing.

So, is it important to use ACV or will white work just as well, if you're using BS as a shampoo?
