Birth in Santa Maria or San Luis Obispo, CA - Page 2

We had our son at French Hospital and we were very pleased. Nobody hassled us about eye ointments, vaccinations, circumcision or vitamin K shots. They were fine with us bringing our own vitamin K (oral), and did a great job overall.
I delivered with SLO City Midwives and it was very good - no epis, unwanted interventions or anything else.
We mostly recommend Pam as postpartum nurse, she was awesome. We also liked that certified lactation nurses are available and help with nursing and latching issues. they are really knowledgeable and provide you with pumps, SNS systems and all other tricks if you need them.

CONGRATS!!!
So glad it seems there is at least ONE good choice for the area right? I really miss CA...but if we moved back I know I would still just have a homebirth... )

I'm assuming the OP has found a place to have her baby, if she hasn't had it already! I wanted to chime in about Sierra Vista hospital, though. I was having a planned home birth, but after laboring at home (that was good!) ended up transporting to Sierra Vista. I have no complaints whatsoever about that place! The nurses were great and really supported breastfeeding and having my baby with me as much as possible. (They watched her for me while I took a shower!) There was a lactation consultant who met with us, but things were going well (thankfully) in that area so she just checked in on us the one time. All the nurses helped with breastfeeding as well. I went in as an emergency, so I don't know about pitocin, etc. Even though it had been 32-ish hours since my water had broken by the time we got there, the ob on call gave me choices, in other words even at that point he didn't insist I have a c-section. No hassle whatsoever about choosing not to have vaccinations there.

I know this is an old post, but figured I'd chime in. I spent 6 plus weeks at Sierra Vista on bedrest and have nothing but wonderful things to say about the staff there. My boys were also in the NICU for close to 3 months, the nurses and doctors there are also great! It was well worth the 30 minute drive and deliver!
