Is this just yeast?

I read the sticky about yeast and using liquid acidophilus to clear it up, but I want to make sure I'm really dealing with yeast here. My 19 mo ds was on antibiotics last week and I've started noticing a yellowish, sometimes orangish slight discharge, plus the tip looks inflamed. I bought the acidophilus yesterday but when I went to apply it I looked closer and it's also red and irritated looking in a line down from tip down to bottom (just rash?). Then when I actually applied it, he complained a bit that owie it hurt. Not a lot but a little, and he's not a big complainer of pain. Does that sound right?

Bumping for you. I'm not really sure but someone here will know.
I certainly don't think it would hurt to use it and keep doing as you're doing. Might he also be having a bit of natural separation too?
Maybe some others will have past experience and better advice.

Well it cant hurt to apply it and if you see improvment then you know it was yeast. If you dont then you might be dealing with something more.

It's hard to tell from your description what is going on. First, the yellowish discharge is smegma which is normal and not at all harmful. The redness is a little harder to address. It might be an infection and it might be some diaper rash. The acidolphus will not do any harm and if it is a yeast infection, should help. If you see no change or the symptoms get worse, take your son in for an examination and insist that samples for a culture be taken. This will either confirm or deny an infection and will allow the doctor to prescribe a medication that is known to be effective on the pathogen. The results from the culture will take a couple of days to come back so be sure to call the doctor's office to confirm that any prescription is the right one. With the correct medication, you should be seeing results within a couple of days.

Are you sure the red line from tip to his bottom is not just his raphe? That is the 'seam' where the two halves of the body are joined when the urethra forms. Some people have a more pronounced one, whereas on others it is barely noticeable. Like pps, I would just try the acidophilus, or some Monistat, and see if you think it's improving. If not, then something else is going on.

Yes and no, it is but it was definitely irritated. However I've been keeping on with the acidophilus and today it is suddenly appears totally cleared up.

Thanks for all the responses everyone. I actually didn't know the discharge is normal, it's showing up just coincided so I thought it was related. That's really good to know.

sorry to hijack this post, I am learning since I will be having a boy and wondering if a baby with possible yeast, can be dipped on water with a few drops of vinegar? I mean, my MW recommend it to women that are suspecting having yeast infection AND it is a natural ingredient, I don't see the harm here but just wondering....
