protection against fleas

Hi
We just moved into a new house this last week and our new neighbor has an outside dog that seems to be scratching all day long.... I do not know much about fleas.... but I am worried about my children getting fleas from the neighbors yard and bringing them into our house.... this is all speculation... but I would like to protect my house and children.... how can I do that? There is no fence between our house and I can see how my children could go in their grass from time to time while playing.... what would you do? Do I ask them when we see them? I haven't met them yet and I do not want to say anything that could make them mad at me.... but at the same time I do not want fleas! I have read about sprays that can be put in the grass... ... but I definitely would need to find something organic or all natural if I could....

ANY SUGGESTIONS please??

For some reason, I seem to be replying to all the bug posts today! Oh well.

We find a good combat against fleas is vacuuming. A lot. You need to make sure you get all of the generations vacuumed up. Also, you can dust diatomaceous earth around the floor. Sweep it into the nooks and crannies of tile and wooden floors, into corners of walls and the like. And then vacuum/sweep up the excess.

Frontline Plus

Using frontline plus drops on your dog, monthly, would be a good first step if you're not already doing it.

It's obviously not organic, but when I was younger we didn't have that for my dogs and our house got infested pretty bad. It's worth it, for sure.

Fleabusters, if they are in your area, is excellent. They guarantee the work, also. And the stuff they use is safe enough to eat (not that I'd want to, but...) and is not a chemical. Also, lavender repels fleas...

If the concern is with your children picking up fleas, make sure they get plenty of garlic in their diets.

Rosemary, lavender, lemongrass and mint are all repellents, so planting some of them around your doors and your fence line can also help. Using an EO in your laundry routine (of one of the above) can also help prevent the fleas from hitching a ride.
