Saga's here

I havent been very active on her but I thought I'd update and let you all know that I had my baby on Friday. Since she is my first I was so sure to go at least half a week over and was somewhat unprepared to give birth to her at 39 weeks.

It all started with the pasta. Someone on this forum had mentioned not long ago that women carb loaded before birth. I've never been much of a pasta fan but suddenly I found myself buying all kinds of pasta from the shop. Seems that was correct in my case.

Tuesday I went to my flamenco class. That was another surprise, I had always thought that surely I'll be having some kind of problem dancing before the birth, pressure down there at least. Well Tuesday's lesson was excellent, felt great and energetic afterwards.

Wednesday I continued with my cleaning project. I moved some smaller pieces of furniture to get the floor washed. I was feeling fairly energetic and had no idea labor was so close.

Thursday I woke up with some contractions. I figured that they might be false contractions since I had been cleaning and lifting stuff the day before. Sure enough they faded away. I went to town to celebrate May day and walked around for hours. On the bus back home I started getting contractions and this time they didnt stop.

I thought about all the stories I had read about a women who were contracting fairly regularly for few hours just for it to stop. So I waited for it to stop which of course it didnt.

At 5ish on Friday morning I felt like I couldnt take it anymore so I woke up my BF and off to the hospital we went. I was dialated 3/4 cm.

After few hours in L&D I hadnt progressed much more so I decided to follow the midwife's suggestions on how to make things go bit faster. I had been awake for 28 hours by that time. So I got stuck in all manner of places, my water got completely broken (had been trickling I think), got an injection down there which didnt help and then in the end agreed on an epidural.

With the epi in place they also added some oxytocin to speed up things. Finally shortly before 2pm I was ready to push. That part was going fine for a while until suddenly the room filled with people. The baby's heart rate had started to drop a lot, she had the umbilical cord around her neck. She ended up being born with aid of a suction cup.

At 2.12 a 6 1/3 pounds and 19 1/3 inches girl was born. I hadnt had her gender confirmed beforehand but I knew all along that she was a girl.

I ended up having a lot of interventions I had been hoping to do without but I had the odds stacked against me. I got my little girl at the end of it, that is what matters.

I just loved these two lines! I can't imagine doing flamenco 8 months ago, much less now. Welcome Saga!
