Cupcake Carrier - Is it worth it?

After bringing in cupcakes for dd#1's birthday, I now need to start bringing them in for dd#2.

Should I cave and invest in one of these?
Cupcake Carrier

I figure I'll be needing it twice a year for now and then when Girl Scouts or after school activities start, it might be more.

Up to now, we've been making customized cardboard transport that is a huge pain.

I would just use a bakery box/cake box (cardboard), you can find them at kitchen supply stores. They aren't usually divided or anything. I don't see any reason to keep cupcakes separated - all the cup cake cafes around here just use regular undivided cake boxes.

wow you have a cupcake cafe in your town, that sounds so delish

I noticed at a potluck once that someone stuck large marshmallows around the cupcakes to keep them from sliding around. For just twice a year, I'd probably not buy one but I'd keep my eyes open for one at a garage sale or flea market. Some have a reversible bottom so can be used for either a regular cake or cupcakes though I don't know how many.

If that is the amount of cupcakes you would normally bring then I think it could be handy. Obviously you can do it without a specialized container.

Here is one that carries 36. It can also be used to carry a cake apparently if you remove the trays.

OMG, that is freaking brilliant!

Right, I make cupcakes for a living. Hey, it's not rocket science but it pays the schools fees!
Anyways, I use a large plastic box with a snap on lid like this one:
http://www.reallyusefulproducts.co.u...b07_0litre.php

Now, I know that's a UK site but I am sure there is something like it in the US.

I just suggest that vs a specific cake carrier because unless you use it frequently for cakes, it becomes something that just takes up space. Whereas a regular box of some sort could have other uses when not transporting cakes.

Or you could buy a couple of sets of cupcakes at the grocery store, eat them, and save the container they came in.

I have the Tupperware one that holds 18. One side has the inserts for cupcakes, the other side is flat for a rectangular cake or jellyroll cake. I can always use another small container if I need more.

I used my large roasting pan when I had to transport DD's cupcakes to her party at the park last summer.

what about using a piece of the shelf liner stuff, the soft weave like stuff, you can cut it and put it in the bottom of a box/pan then set the cupcakes on top and they won't shift around, would still need to worry about a cover but I know some of the sheet cake pans come with covers. If your cupcakes were in the little paper cups would work nice I would think.

My mom would always make fun BD cakes for folks and always used a piece of that shelf stuff under the cardboard she had wrapped in aluminum foil so that when she put that in the bigger box it wouldn't slide around (to hold the cake to the aluminum foil she always used a big glob of frosting.

Sounds fatteningly frugal!

I have a few big food storage containers that I can use. BUT! Dd#1 has a penchant for those cupcakes in ice cream cones (click here to see what I'm talking about). If you've ever made them, they're super tippy. With the icing on them, they're super messy with them falling or banging into one another. Simply putting them into a box or regular food storage container doesn't work well. I didn't put that in my original post. But the cones are the reason why we end up with cardboard with custom cut holes to carry them every year.

4evermom I like the marshmallow idea. :

Onlyzombiecat: do the trays have indentations for the cupcakes? I like that site by the way.

Oh, no. I should NOT have read this. Now I want a cupcake, maybe a couple AND I want one of those cupcake carriers... Last time I used an empty soda box from the chinese food place (they always seem to have those boxes.)

If you can afford, I'd get it.
I make a lot of cupcakes and I think it's worth having an easy way to transport.

I have one. It's handy when you need to transport cupcakes and I imagine it'll last forever. However, if I were going to buy one it'd be the one OZC posted the link to. It looks a lot more useful as you can carry cakes with it, too. We only have one because I got it in our family Xmas present swap.

Here is the one I have:
http://www.wilton.com/store/site/pro...58&CMP=AFC-CCF

There is an insert that has spots on one side for normal cupcakes and the other side has spots for tiny cupcakes. Then without the insert it holds a sheet cake. My son has a dairy allergy so I bring dairy free cupcakes and cakes and cookies everywhere. I use it a lot. And even for cake for just at home I like having the cover. Saves me using plastic wrap or foil.

I have one. I got it on clearance for about 5 dollars. It's nice, it works! I also use it a couple times a year.

The one I linked to says the cups in the trays are 1 1/5" deep and 3" diameter.

I don't think a standard cupcake carrier will work for the ice cream cone cupcakes.
Maybe you could cut up a tube like from paper towels or wrapping paper and glue or tape them together to hold the cones upright.

Apparently Joy ice cream cups has a carrier for the cupcake cones but you have to get an order form from a box. http://www.joycone.com/faqs.htm

I think I am going to ask for one for a cupcake carrier for my birthday. My dd is in the 2nd grade and I would probably use one alot. Right now I just put them in a cardboard box b/c I'm too cheap to purchase one.
