1.Flail their arms like they are falling down a black whole ???? My LO does and it must scare the crap out of him, you should see the look on his face.

2. Go through HELL to have a bm? My LO, twist and scrunches and grunts and moans and I wonder if he is morphing into something else

When he nurses his stomach bubbles, hope there is no acid in my breast milk LOL

p.s. anyone know what to do about a stuffy nose?????
my lo does both of those things. i wasn't surprised about the flailing, but the bm agony was news to me. glad to hear she's not the only one. is the nose really stuffy, or is it still fluid from the lungs working its way out? mine snorts a lot while eating, and i think it is some leftover amniotic fluid in there. according to my dr. sears baby book, this is normal.

yeah he snorts alot. and when he sneezes nothing comes out.

breastmilk or saline drops up the nose will help them sneeze it all out.

Have you been eating broccoli, cabbage, garlic, beans, tomatoes and such? Peanut butter? Strawberries? Those foods can potentially irritate the baby through your milk. I'm sure other mamas here know more about it than me because I've had pretty easy nursers (except for the time I ate raw garlic

And the flailing is called the moro/startle reflex. It's normal and should go away in a few months

I just noticed my baby's belly doing this, this week (week 6).
I've been eating this pie all week long and I think it may be the problem...
I got the recipe from my sil before we had Caleb and I've been chowing down on it... like, every day... the problem is... I think... it has yogurt and whipcream in it. Way sugary?
So I better lay off the pie.... but it is SO good and SO easy to make. I guess I could do the sugar-free verison of the recipe but... *sigh*

has your LO tolerated dairy pretty well ?

Yes to #1. No to #2. He gets a little fussy, then farts/poops, and feels better instantly. Right before he does it, he often gets very peaceful and calm and relaxed. Then... ppppbbbbbttht.

Graeme is always getting startled and it's so cute.
Does anyone else's kid grunt a lot? My guy is so talk-y! He grunts and makes this noise that sounds a lot like a horse - either a horse or a goat.

And his farts are LOUD, like they come from an adult. Hehe.

Oh, and his stomach gets rumbly and I don't eat dairy. Lots of digestive issues (me) so my diet is rather mild so I'm not so sure the rumbles/gas are diet related. Just thought I'd throw that out there in case anyone was going to do some major elimination diet...

DH and I went to a movie Saturday night and took DS with us. During a quiet part of the movie, DS let a loud fart rip. I don't think many people realized that we had a baby with us, so I bet they thought it was DH or me.

Mine here is a belcher, just as loud as any full-size belcher I've heard EVER.

DS will almost always go to sleep if we stick him in a sling. When we decided to go to a movie, he had been awake for several hours, so we knew he was due to sleep for a few hours; if he was just waking up from a nap, we would never have tried it. Plus, it's an independent theater and the owners know we're regulars, so we felt we'd be safe from dirty looks, but we also accepted that if he got fussy, we'd just have to leave. We also chose a movie that we knew wouldn't be crowded, and we sat in the back corner. He ended up sleeping in the sling for the first 30 minutes, nursing for the next 30 minutes, and sleeping in my arms for the last 30 minutes.

Now, we know this will never work in a couple months when he stops sleeping consistently in the sling.

Yeah so far.
Maybe the dairy in yogurt and whipcream can cause be the cause of it too?

Eliot (born march 26) is nicknamed Snorty Mc.Snortson because he snorts and grunts a lot-it usually wakes me up in the morning, it's so cute. the boy is hilarious-and yeah, when he poops it is a grand effort with the 'big eyes' and a lot of faces, then he almost passes out afterwards it's so intense for him!

yes to most of those...I don't eat meat and can't eat gluten, so my diet is limited enough already! I've eliminated most dairy, but he is still having digestive issues--painful gas every evening accompanied by screaming. His poops sometimes have some green in them too. I've tried using the same breast for a few hours in a row, but he will go a couple hours between feedings, so I don;t know if that is helping.

What is left to eat? And if it's a foremilk issue, what to do about that?

I've read some articles lately about probiotics helping with their gassy-ness??
We've been looking into probiotics and food-related gassiness. I found this at Kellymom and one interesting thing said is that no food other than dairy has been proven to be linked to gassiness. In other words- broccoli, for instance, may cause gassiness but research has not (yet) supported that. The article does say that generally speaking mommas should be eating what they want, when they want, in the quantity they want.

i know that raw garlic makes my LO very unhappy so just because a website (and i love kellymom) says it doesn't or shouldn't, i just go on my intuition.
broccoli (raw) and the other veggies in the cruciferous family make ME gassy so i stay away from them while nursing a nb. another intuition/just makes sense thing to me.
you have to remember that they are still in their fourth trimester... most of their body systems are still immature. that's why they have the reflexes they do.
since i became a mom i haven't been able to go about with life as usual... the entire focus of my life is my baby and kids... so it would seem to follow in the foods i eat etc.
what else is there (foodwise)? whole grains like br rice, oats in all its forms, fruit. i'm typing on handed so not gonna make a list. try lightly steaming the veggies you suspect.
above all, just listen to your baby. there is no right way because your relationship with your lo is significantly different than mine with mine. yk?

getting bmilk up the nose? express enough to stick your finger in it and get a droplet hanging off the tip, hold you finger over his nostril and let it drip in

speaking of food... my dh made green curry the other night and LO hasn't had a bowel mvment all day yesterday... AND i had the curry for lunch too :
