cement blocks as a bed frame?

we have a family bed, well it's a king and a twin next to each other. they are on the floor right now but i'd really like to utilize the under bed storage so i'm trying to figure out how to get them off the ground.

i've been looking at bed frames and they seem so expensive. i've been scouting craigslist and freecycle, but no luck. and my MIL suggested cement blocks. anyone do this? i'm afraid they'll topple over, but i suppose there are different sizes and maybe some wouldn't.

any ideas?

I don't know about the cement blocks, but the metal folding beds work really well. Ex: http://store.avantgardegadgets.com/stsufobedwim.html

This one looks a bit pricy, but a few of those, tied together would make a perfect base for the king bed. My mom used them, and they were cheaper than the box frame and supported the mattress really really well. I think it made them last a lot longer. Plus the underbed storage is awesome.
