Our governement phone service people are crazy making!
So, any Canadian mamas on here who applied for EI as a maternity leave? Did you wind up having to pay it back in taxes at the end of the year? Did you have the option of starting benefits before your due date? Any other tidbits of info to pass along? Is it worth it?
extra details - DH is working full-time, and earns a mid-low salary for our area. I've been working 32 hours a week with one company, and just under 20 with another, though neither offers mat leave or benefits (even for "full time" staff). We had just assumed that we would do completely without my income, but if we can continue to pull in a bit, it would be a huge load off of our shoulders.
Thoughts?

). There was no problem at all with that since it covers you for up to a year either way. I can't see how it wouldn't be worth it unless you were going right back to work asap after giving birth.

There is a one-month (I think? Maybe it was 2 weeks) waiting period where you won't get benefits though.
