Alternatives to Vinyl Shower Curtain Liners?

We're thinking about replacing our shower curtain liner. I'm hoping to find a more green (but preferably relatively frugal) alternative to vinyl. Any suggestions?

Cloth! We've used 'em for years. They're softer, more flexible, and smell way, WAY, WAY better than the icky plastic ones. Plus you can wash them over and over.

There is a natural latex one you can buy at jcpenney but we switched to a double layer of cloth because it's even better than the latex.

My problem is the bottom of my stained tub that I want to hide with a bathmat but don't want my kid's to soak in a pvc bath. I did this for years without realizing it.

You can get a cloth one at Target for about 10 bucks, so they're totally affordable. Hemp is what I'd like to do one day, though due to the lesser environmental cost of production and their tendency to resist mildew. I just can't afford it.

Oh, no! My daughter has a little inflated bathtub insert that of course is plastic and is really, really bad, right? Our shower/tub is fiberglass, is that any better? Sheesh, and here I was thinking I was saving water and keeping her safe from hitting her head on the tub!

I have a cloth one. 100% cotton, canvas I think. I have not had a mildew problem. I wash it on hot once a week. Try it out, you'll see how unnecessary the plastic liner actually is. So cheap, you could even make it yourself.

Thats what I bought and was very pleased. Haven't had it much longer than a couple months but so far no mildew

That's a good question about the tub itself, I'm not sure. Mine is ceramic.

Really dumb question but doesn't the water go THROUGH the cloth? I buy cheap clear plastic liners and replace every once in a while (we also have really hard water) but would love to get cloth if it means the water will not go through. The main shower we use is just a shower stall with a glass door, but I have the liner so I don't have to clean the glass.

Wouldn't the water go through the cloth and still hit the glass door?

I buy inexpensive cloth ones, that claim to need a liner.

The water just flows down the curtain. As long as the bottom of the curtain is inside the tub, the water will flow into the tub along it.

I use cotton canvas. It's important to spread it out afterwards to make sure it dries, and I wash mine every week so it doesn't get a chance to mildew.

No, the water doesn't go through the cloth.
