My ds just had a tongue tie clipped. Ii'm worried about his weight. Is it possible to boost supply now?

Try fenugreek and pump (although pumping is a mixed bag, once you start you can't really stop which is annoying, so I would do fenugreek first--amazon.com had it for $5 a bottle which was really cheap.)

yes! I think that's about when I started feeling like my supply was decreasing. I took Mother's Milk capsules and it really felt like I had more milk.

I second the fenugreek. DD is 9.5 months and I'm using it a bit! I have basically no freezer stash for when I'm gone so I am pumping and noticing a larger volume now that I'm taking the fenugreek. Of course offer him the breast frequently!

Unfortunately he seems sensitive to fenugreek. I tried pumping for a bit this morning but I got nothing to speak of. Sigh. This is so hard.

Sensitive in that it's bothering him or he's just farting? My DD farted a bit more than usual at first and was gassy, but she didn't care and then seemed to adjust and wasn't gassy any more.

If he's not uncomfortable, keep going. If he is uncomfortable, maybe try a little longer to see if his system gets used to it?

Otherwise, try Goat's Rue but that's expensive.

Keep pumping!

Good luck!

Shatavari works well for many people, and of course Domperidone is an option if he is really having a weight gain issue. Of course constant nursing & breast compressions are a good low cost option when mom isn't having a mechanical or hormonal problem.

Check out the stickie at the top of this forum. 9 months is definitely not too late to increase supply!

More Milk Plus by Motherlove really boosted my supply this last week. I went from pumping not even a half-ounce between both breasts to pumping 6-9 ounces at one session (20 minutes, every two hours) after 7 or 8 days. I also make sure to drink a lot of water. Good luck!

Mother's Milk, Fenugreek, Oatmeal are all things you can eat to increase supply. Avoid things like sage, oregano, parsley, peppermint, which can DECREASE supply.

Frequent pumping will encourage supply (ie...nurse, then pump for 10-15 mins right afterwards). If your son is sleeping through the night, or sort of sleeping through, set your alarm for every 3-4 hours and pump (or express)...middle of the night is when you produce the most milk...make the most of it.

Breast compressions will help your son get the fattier milk.

I have been pumping for 22+ mos. At 13.5 mos, I got pregnant and had a miscarriage...my supply dropped to about half of what it was. Through extra pumping and fenugreek (I realize that may not be an option for you), I got it back to about 75% of what it was before the pregnancy/miscarriage - it's possible, but it will take a lot of work. .

Oh, yeah, you can do it! My supply tanked about a month ago, because of being sick. I was down to nursing each kid once or twice a day, and not even letting-down at those times. Now we're back up to four or five times each, and everybody's getting plenty of milk, and I'm waking up brim-full in the mornings. Nurse lots and lots, pump in between or right afterwards, and don't go more than three or four hours without pumping or nursing. I can't use fenugreek either; my own gut is too sensitive to it. If you're persistent, you can do it without any herbs at all. I second the middle-of-the-night nursing suggestion-- take your baby to bed with you and just nurse all night for a few days.

Thanks for the advice. DS does nurse a lot at night already & at least every 2 hrs during the day. I'll try the breast compressions. I'm also considering Dom.

I don't know for certain. I only know that his weight gain has really slowed down. I think he hasn't gained anything in the last couple of weeks.

It's VERY normal for weight gain to slow down at that age. Dd was the same weight from 9 months to 22 months.
