Natural and/or Homemade Stain Remover

I'm looking for something to pre-treat laundry stains. Spring is here and so are the muddy dirty stains and the baby is discovering new and exciting foods with her clothing. I used to use Shout as a pre-treatment but I'm wondering if there is something a little more friendly I could use.

I already make my own laundry soap and household cleaners so why not a stain remover?

Thanks for any suggestions!!

We use H2O2 (hydrogen peroxide). Works beautifully on organic stains (blood, wine, juice, mud, grass).

How do you use it? Do you spray it on the stain and let it sit? Or do you have to put it in the wash as soon as you apply it to the stain?

I use Bi-O-Kleen's Bac-Out for organic stains and their soy solvent for oil-based stains.

Although...I might try the H2O2. I have used peroxide for small stains on carpet or furniture. I just dapped it with a q-tip.

I've used plain unseasoned meat tenderizer for getting out protein-based stains (blood, milk, etc.). Make it into a paste with some water directly on the stain.
