Can benadryl stop labor?

just a worry-wart question..

I normally take this at night to stop the itching that keeps me awake all night otherwise. But if it's going to stop contractions I do NOT want it tonight!

Anybody know?

This would be a guess, but if it's true labor - no it's not going to stop it, nothing is

: I was wondering this, too.

Lots of things can stall labor, I don't know if benedryl is one of them though.

Here. I googled your thread title and found this: http://en.allexperts.com/q/ObGyn-Pre...X-PRELABOR.htm

The ob says benadryl will not stop contractions.

If it is false labor and would stop on it's on eventually anyway, then YES benedryl will stop them. If it is real labor then NO benedryl will do nothing. I was given benedryl with my last when I was having BH all the time. Good luck mama!!

thanks!! I don't want to itch if I don't have to!

Yeah, I'd think not much would stop the real thing. But benadryl can be used as a slight muscle relaxant so it would make sense that it could stop the "fake" stuff.

I've heard of benadryl for prodromal labor, just to help the mom catch some rest and space out the contrax a bit (the early irritating ones) but not for slowing or stopping the real thing. If I were you I'd take it. I'd rather not itch!!! If anything worse case scenerio, it'll make you a lil drowsy between contrax til it wears off...but I think that'd have to be a pretty hefty dose.
