If you don't mind my asking, how do you find time to do some much every day? Do you do the floors in the bedrooms as well?

I can barely get to my bathrooms every other week, and it's been months since we last vaccumed.
I guess maybe it takes less time than I think? Lately I just feel like I'm not cut out for this wife/homemaker gig.

I'm not StrawberryFields, but my heartstrings were pulled by your last sentence. First of all, BIG HUGS!!!! I don't know you, of course, but I bet you are a FABULOUS person!

Next, here's a game you can play. I do it when I am not really feeling "Suzy Homemaker"-ish. LOL

Figure out ONE task that needs to be done. Start a stopwatch or timer or just look at a clock (don't stress about this part). GO DO THE TASK! Stop the stopwatch or look at how much time is left on the timer or check the clock (whatever you used).

Two things usually occur when I do this:
1. It takes me far less time to get it done than I imagined in my head.
2. It is DONE and I can move on with my day!

Best wishes!!!

sunnysandiegan very good point about the time factor. i have started noticing the same thing....things take way less time than i imagine. 5- 10 min is often all it takes to do many house chores. since i have been drilling this into my head things have been much easier and i have felt less stressed.

I scrub both bathrooms daily. I mop the bathroom floors twice a week. I vacuum the kitchen floor daily, mop 3 times a week, wipe down counters/stove/table after each meal prep. I wash dishes as they get used, except for dinner dishes, I do those all at once. I don't like dirty dishes left in the sink. I vacuum the whole house once a day and sometimes more if a particular area gets messy. I do laundry daily. We are a family of 4 and spend a lot of time in the house, so it has to be cleaned daily or it turns into a pigsty within 3 days. (that happened the last time I had mastitis)

I think that there are a couple things that help me get it all done every day because trust me, I am not cleaning from sun up to sun down! The first is a small house, the second is no clutter.

When we were house hunting I was adamant about a small, open space because I didn't want to spend a lot of time cleaning. Our house is 788 square feet on the main floor and that includes 2 bedrooms So I do do all 5 floors every day. We only have 1 bathroom.

Fo rme the key is to do a little here and a little there, and I think that is all you can do when you have so many kids around! I have a 2.5 year old and a 3 month old, and I babysit for a 2.5 year old, a 1.5 year old, and an 8 month old. Instead of taking 45 minutes to sweep, vacuum, and mop the floors at once, I'll take 15 to vacuum when I get up while the coffee brews, 10 to sweep while lunch is warming up, and 20 to mop in the late afternoon while the toddlers watch a video.

Bathroom: same deal, when I switch the hand towel in the morning I use the old one to wash out the sink quick. I wash down the bathtub before filling a bath for ds. I'll wipe down the toilet while the bath is filling, etc.

Kitchen: here I think it is just a matter of cleaning up after eating a meal and when I wipe down the counter I'll take an extra 5 seconds and swipe the cabinet or the fridge at the same time.

And remember, just because I do these things every day doesn't mean that my house looks like Better Homes & Gardens!! Vacuuming daily doesn't do a damn thing to stem the onslaught of toys or keep the windows free of sticky peanut butter fingers.

Again, we have 2 1/2 baths and only 3 people living here and we're really not home that much so it just doesn't get dirty quickly. Quick cleanings in the bathroom maybe once a week/every other week. Amazingly, it just really doesn't look that dirty. We must not really live in our house much
I'm with you- sounds exactly like my cleaning routine. Except sometimes the dishes sit for 2 days (the ones that won't fit in the dishwasher)...

For those of you scrubbing bathrooms and mopping floors every day- how do you find the time/motivation? Do you have kids off at school and an empty house, or are you carting a baby around and monitoring LO's while you're doing all this? And do your bathrooms really get *that* dirty that you need to clean them every day?!?

I feel like I could definitely do more cleaning... but I think that scrubbing the entire house down every day is a bit of overkill. Besides, if your house is completely dust and germ free, your LO's actually have a higher chance of developing things like allergies and asthma. So I feel ok letting DD be exposed to a moderate amount of dust. Plus, I just have better things to do with my time- like play with DD!!

i have found (much to my dislike) my house is dirty everyday. especially bathroom, kitchen and floors. that is why i posted this thread. i was wondering how everyone else felt about their house. i was cleaning my house top to bottom twice a week. but i still felt like the next day after scrubbing it was dirty again. hair on the bathroom floor....(lot's of hair KWIM) and all the other floors looked yucky too. things just didn't seem fresh, like right after i clean (what a good feeling eh?) however i was REALLY resisting cleaning everyday. i remember my mom only cleaned once a week. maybe that is where i got my idea from? anyway, now that i see others clean day in and day out i also have started cleaning everyday. i feel so much better.

Yeah, my house is always a mess. It's much, much better than recent years, though.

We have five kids, and elderly uncle and a messy parrot. We homeschool. So my house never gets a break. There is never a time where everything is done at the same time.

I have been on a serious decluttering kick and have gotten rid of everything we don't use on a regular basis. I mean everything. And that makes it easier to straighten up at night, at least.

Really, I'm okay with not having a perfectly clean house all the time, I grew up in one and don't miss living like that. But I do want to walk through my house and not get black on the bottom of my feet either. I'm trying to find the balance, and I think if it was just me I'd be doing great! But, I have these kids that follow me around undoing what I've done. :

I try to keep the d/w empty so we can fill it as we go, and run when its full. Emptying it is the worst part for me.

Same with the washing machine, once its full I wash in cold, switch to the dryer and hope someone is around to fold it when its done. Its a miracle if it gets put away.

Someone goes around at night and collects all the trash from the various trash cans, replacing bags as needed. Then it gets taken down to the toter. Recycling, too.

We recently got a Roomba that is set to run after we go to bed, so the floor is swept every night. (Motivation to make sure everything is picked up before we go upstairs.) And dh runs the Scooba before he leaves for work in the morning. I come down to a clean floor.

I wipe down the bathroom when the kids take a bath, and wipe down the powder room many times a day. (We have three boys. )

There are two things that overwhelm me - laundry and toys. Laundry I've finally pared down and am doing okay with. Not great, but we all have clean clothes at least. Toys are such a hassle. My kids don't even play with them. They get left around and broken, pieces everywhere. I hate them! I just got rid of 99% of them, with the kids blessings. I scooped everything into a pile and asked them what they wanted, then I asked them if they cared if I got rid of the rest. Surprisingly, they didn't care. Now they play in that room all day. It's great! I'm on the lookout for cute little treasure chests for each of them.

My three year old kept the most - trains, cars, characters, trucks, etc. The baby has her kitchen set and wooden food, a baby doll, a basket of blocks and her little books along the wall in the living room. I can handle that.

Anyway, I'm rambling...so I'll be done now.

I was a WAHM for 4 years, running an online resale business out of my home.

The whole house was a disaster, and we had WAY too much stuff. I have been taking a break from my business, and I am strictly a SAHM now. I have been trying for 7 months to get my house under control...and we are finally getting there!

I am so impressed with how organized and motivated some of you are! reading your posts reminds me that it can be done

This whole thread is making me feel so dirty. LOL And here I thought I kept the house pretty clean, but I don't do half what some of you do in a day.

I do a BIG clean once a week (more if needed) & then tidy/freshen up in between.
